Sanchez is a guy who really needs to get on track. It doesn't seem to be that he has been himself from the past two seasons. But, as is the case with Luzardo, his peripherals are good but that BABIP....310. The question that comes with that, has he been unlucky or has he been serving up stuff that is too easy to hit or is the Phillies' defense so bad that a lot of batted balls going to become hits when they should be outs (and, as result, don't expect much change to the BABIP)?

Sanchez has not really been that unlucky so far. He still has a 2.94 ERA and his FIP is only a bit lower at 2.62. Luzardo on the other hand has been extremely unlucky. Painter and Nola have also been a bit on the unlucky side.

But Mattingly is supposedly a wiz at defensive BABIP anyway so I guess he'll solve all the problems.

.310 would be within normal range for BABIP against but what I'm seeing is Sanchez has a .423 BABIP (it was .299 last year). More hits are definitely falling against him (his WHIP is way up, hits way up, HRs and BBs slightly). If anything he's probably been lucky, in terms of limiting the damage. He hadn't allowed more than 2 earned runs in his first five starts, but five unearned runs across two of his starts and then the last wreck against Chicago (six ERs and his overall stats probably skewed by that in SSS).

Nice to be home I guess. Tomorrow's game moved up to 12:35 and a split DH game scheduled for 5:35. Long day for the Giants who I assume need to get somewhere Friday.

No days off next week so we'll have a bullpen game at some point, maybe even tomorrow if they bring the extra pitcher up from the minors. I think Rangel just pitched though so they probably do it next week. Cabrera is not rested also for tomorrow. No idea on Pop coming back either.

The bullpen pickings are pretty slim.

I see now that what you meant was his BA is .310. Which goes along with the .423 BABIP. But a lot of that is definitely luck, and also inflated by just the one game (which doubled his ERA and FIP too).

Unfortunately this game is already going much the same. And I guess the bot created a fresh game thread.
