Joey Wiemer
Called strike (91.2 mph sinker)In play, out(s) (93. mph sinker)
Nationals challenged (play at 1st): Joey Wiemer grounds out, first baseman Bryce Harper to pitcher Taijuan Walker.
I don’t understand how the runner at third can be allowed to go back there after being tagged out. He had stumbled halfway home. Even with the overturned play at first, they should have been allowed to continue the play to get the third out.
So who’s our longman out of the bullpen?
On-field Delay.Phillies manager Rob Thomson ejected by 1B umpire Marvin Hudson.Ball (87.2 mph splitter)Swinging strike (87.2 mph cutter)Ball (92.3 mph four-seam fastball)Foul (87.4 mph splitter)Called strike (93.1 mph four-seam fastball)
James Wood called out on strikes.
Runner was safe at 1B after challenge, runner put back on 3B even though Phillies tagged him out in the base paths after the play at 1B.
Rob ejected as a manager cannot argue a challenge decision, Mattingly takes over for the game.
Supposedly it is the umpire's discretion whether the runner is put back on 3B or not. The fact he was off the base and, when tagged, would be out in any other scenario does not seem to matter.
