I see there is no game day thread.

Phillies take lead in top of the ninth. 2-1.

I'll try to add a brief summary.

Nicasio got the last out in the bottom of the 8th for the Philies. But Neris coming in to pitch the bottom of the ninth.

Pivetta pitched six innings, one run, 4 hits, 3 walks, 6 K.

In the first, a lead off single followed by a wild pitch and two walks loaded the bases with no outs.
Pivetta got next two out without a run scoring and then allowed a run on a wild pitch. Then he retired that batter.

Phillies did not score until the ninth.

Neris in the bottom of the ninth:

Yelich out 4-3.
Ozuna K.
Realmuto out 1-3 on acrobatic play in the field. Neris the juggler; Blanco (1B) the tumbler.

Phillies win, 2-1.

Franco doubles.
Williams grounds out, Franco to third.
Florimon walks.
Alfaro singles, Franco scores making it a 1-1 game. Runners first and third. One out.
Blanco grounds out to first. Florimon scores, Alfaro to second. Phillies lead 2-1.

Hoskins went 0 for 3 (3 Ks) with a walk.

Bullpen total, 3 IP, no runs, hits, or walks. 3 Ks. Ramos pitched the 7th; Milner first two batters in the 8th, Nicasio the final out in the 8th; Neris the 9th.

Baseball is fun when you win.

Hoskins starting to chase, and Alfaro is chasing everything, you can see both his potential and his problem - he's talented enough to almost get away with it (like Williams).

Pivetta looked really bad to start the game, then settled down and showed a nice slider and decent curve, but his command was shaky, he was overthrowing a lot of pitches. He's just overwhelmed by being in the Show right now, but you can see where he could turn it around quickly if he settled down and realized ML hitters aren't ten feet tall and yes, you have good enough stuff to challenge them instead of nibbling and overgripping the ball.

Ramos has really turned it around since he returned, this is starting to look like a deep, solid bullpen.

As SF is only a half game better than us, expect anger about Phils being worst team in MLB to possibly shift to anger about Phils not being the worst team in MLB

Already happened, EF, many are rooting for losses openly. I see it as win-win. If we win I'm happy, if we lose I'm consoled by draft position improvement!

I would ideally like to see our young players play well and the short-timers cost us each game (or have SF and the ChiSox start winning, too).

I'd much rather see the young starting pitchers settle in September (screw the level of competition, for these guys, the biggest competition is between their ears) and show they're ready for a rotation spot in 2018 than draft a couple slots higher but not have the foundation of a good, young rotation going forward.
Same way I want to see the bullpen continue to pitch well and gain confidence.

There is no one we're drafting that will have the impact of a bunch of young pitchers getting their groove on and establishing the foundation for a competitive team for the next 3-4 years.
