HI VfK, I think everyone (at least everyone who is not biased against the Eagles) agrees it would be a terrible policy by the league for exactly the reasons you cite, among others.

It seems like obvious sour grapes from most of the teams, as opposed to legit concerns about injury, but it is hardly unusual for any league to outlaw certain kinds of formations or contact. Pushing was illegal until 2005 anyway.

I certainly don't think there is an officiating conspiracy against the Eagles because of their success or the Tush Push.

The NFL is always tweaking rules to make something that has become very easy more difficult. For example, they moved the extra point line of scrimmage back because there were hardly any missed extra points.

I don't think the tush push is at that point. If it were that easy, all teams would do it and most would succeed. If it gets outlawed next year, it will be sour grapes and nothing else. (And stop saying it's to reduce injuries!)

Supposedly it is not likely to be banned because the votes haven't necessarily changed and the Packers President pushing for it is retiring. But where the Eagles can and will be targeted is with penalties on the play itself.

I have no problem with penalizing the Eagles if a lineman jumps the gun. As long as they are also penalizing defenders who jump offsides or line up in the neutral zone.

The officiating pretty much went one direction for most of this game, especially the second half. I hope it’s not the league behind the bias. Bad calls make games awful to watch, even when they help your team...

I thought it was bad in the first quarter. Sutton had a pass go through his hands because one of his hands was pushing Q away. Not a big deal as the Eagles would have declined it (I think it was on 3rd down). Coop seemed to be heavily held on that fumble that was overturned.

As far as the intentional grounding, it likely was, but Drake Maye (who I am a fan of) was just throwing balls into the ground last night and nothing was called. The Broncos had many more penalties, so I am sure that will be brought up, to the non-calls also matter. The Eagles have had some favorable calls this year. The Eagles have a tough schedule this year and 4-1 is a nice start. They should have a while to figure things out.

There hasn't been much said here with the Phillies' early exit from the MLB Postseason happening, but the Eagles have looked like lately. The offense is predictable, and cannot stay on the field. This has likely caused the defense to become tired, and thereby giving up big plays. Even when they aren't tired, they need some help in the defensive backfield. To make matters worse:

I think the defense looked bad last week without Jalen Carter and Q, but yes the offense didn't help. Missing Landon and with Lane at less than 100% also isn't good. Despite all of the flaws, the passing game is decent. Saquon needs to be more of a factor. I am almost done with AJB.

Mailata indicated two weeks ago on this Chickie and Pete's show on WIP that the running game is the fault of the O-Line. I assume they are slower, injured, tired...etc.. I still think they need to keep AJ. He will be fine once the Offensive Coordinator gets a clue, but Adoree' Jackson is terrible, and they have nobody better...

I was going to say they still have time to work thinks out until i saw Smith retiring, that’s not great news. I agree with LD, Carter and Mitchell are really important, this team doesn’t have the depth it had last year and injuries are taking a toll. I am not impressed with the play calling and hope the Saints fire Moore and that he’s willing to come back but that’s a pipe dream. I also saw Doug pederson say he was willing to come back as a consultant which would be interesting. Eagles have only had two good play callers in this head coaches era.

I always thought the Eagles should have offered Moore headcoach money to stay as OC. There is no salary cap on coaches, and Lurie is loaded, so it doesn't matter how much it cost. Heck, offer Moore what the Saints were offering plus 15%.

Moore was making about 2.5M at philly but i'm having trouble finding a consistent report indicating what he makes with the Saints, some rumors are that its a significant amount of money.

Significant is a relative term. I doubt it's significant for Lurie.

Supposedly somewhere between $5-7.5 million but it wasn't just about the money. He wanted to be a HC. And it's not like he's going to quit or get fired after one season when they are playing for the #1 pick. But if he does, he'll be cheap (because the Saints will still be paying him).

It also wouldn't be about the money on the Eagles side. You just don't pay coordinators that kind of dough. It would have a ripple effect on the HC, the DC and maybe even some players.

The more interesting question, as ever, is does the OC really make that big a difference in terms of scheme and play calls or is the real difference having an OC who isn't an extension of Nick?

It is the inferior guard play compared to last season. Mekhi has not been satisfactorily replaced and Dickerson has been out or hobbled. The Eagles could run up the middle with Barkley last season, but with teams game planning to stop that at guard play greatly diminished, that just isn't possible this season. When Barkley does have success with an up-the-middle run, it seems a fluke, due to rarity. What has impacted Barkley has also hurt Hurts' run success. They must largely give up on the up the middle runs, they don't have the personnel to make it work.

And the LIons and Vikings have two losses (and Packers a loss and a tie), and the Chiefs three. And then there's the Ravens. Commanders dropped their third last night.

The next four weeks will certainly tell a tale but if they lose both the road games the fact that they dropped the Giants game hurts that much more.

It does feel like an odd season so far. It's tough to predict how good the Eagles are, but it seems like they haven't even played well yet.
