No I was saying they could have, but did not, plan to play the starters under that circumstance. They also did not care about the seed or the score of the other game They believed the guaranteed week off for a bunch of players was worth more than a more favorable draw.... which also wasn:t guaranteed.

Now if they lose next week it will be easy to second guess.

Unfortunately, that appears to be the case. A lot of dumb plays but the players as well, including McKee having an easy path to run for first down and throwing an incomplete pass, another TD or at least FG blown because of taunting, and then of course Sirianni passing up a FG. None of second string corners stood a chance against McLaurin. Help needed there in draft or free agency. I thought McKee played quite well, as did Tank and the LB. I am continually surprised that we traded for Dillon and use him so little.

When Sirianni has been allowed to choose his own OC, and both times were an internal pick, bad things happen. It seems loyalty supersedes ability.

I could see this Eagles team going quietly in the first round of the playoffs just as easily as I can see it winning the SB.

Jonathan Gannon was fired as Arizona Cardinals head coach today. So far so was Pete Carroll (Vegas), Kevin Stefanski (Cleveland) and Raheem Morris (Atlanta). Giants & Titans finished the season with interim head coaches. Hope one of those teams is interested in the leadership skills of Kevin Patullo.

For anyone interested in former Eagles coaches, the Colts did say that Shane Steichen would return in 2026. I was hoping he might be interested in coming back to philly on some capacity if he lost his job in Indianapolis.

Obviously a lot depends on how the team does here, not that public sentiment would change even with another championship.

It's been kinda amazing to me how angry some/many of the online Eagles fans have been this year. Not repeating as Super Bowl champions being some horrific outcome to a season is quite amusing to someone who was worried that neither my father nor me would live long enough to ever see them win just one lousy Super Bowl, he got one, I got two, so far.

Nowhere to go but down after you win a Super Bowl (or Coach of the Year). It is hard to repeat.

And it seems pretty obvious that at least half of the issues with the offensive playcalling are a direct result of personnel being not as good (both when they tried to call games as if it was and now when they are working around it). Plus a deliberate choice to win with defense and on turnovers.

Both times they got to the Super Bowl the OC left because of that success (though it's not true Nick never wins with his own guy because Steichen was his guy, and Johnson was really given the job because he was Hurts' guy) and it made sense to try for continuity. Problem is you'll never develop another Nick Sirianni or Shane Steichen or (or Kellen Moore) if you don't let those younger coaches be OCs for multiple seasons, or they have to do it somewhere else. But between this fan base and the understandable championship or bust mindset, I'm sure there will be a change there, and to some players too. The only difference between Sirianni and Pederson is Sirianni went along with the moves last time.

i have to offer a different opinion, as anything less would be disingenuous. I would feel better about this season if they played to their potential, which is a super bowl contender. they have a very special group of young players, I believe Baun was the only defensive starter not on his rookie contract when the season began. With the salary cap, you need to maximize that potential, they cannot afford to keep all of these players for the next ten years. And it is very clear that the OC was not up to the task, and the head coach does not have the skill set to cover for an OC who can't call plays. An Andy Reid head coach could afford to take on an OC who is learning on the job. This wasn't the year to develop an unproven OC and who do they have on the staff that is mentoring this unlearned OC? If you know you are going to be losing coaches, have a better development program for your young coaches than trial by fire. Also in a salary cap era, there's no cap on coaching salaries. Go get an OC similar to Fangio, someone who doesn't aspire to be a head coach.

If they called better games, and the injuries and wear and tear of a long season were the main culprits, I wouldn't be so frustrated. If there were more talented teams beating them I wouldn't be so frustrated. The dallas, Chicago and Chargers losses came down to poor coaching, and I believe the Washington game was winnable if they called better plays in the final five minutes despite playing with backups. And there were many other games where a better coached game would have been more fun!

This is a very strong roster, albeit with some key injuries, an under performing but still pretty good offensive line (RG is a problem). Despite all of that, the defense has won this team games and OC is not a job that you can afford to hire someone incapable of calling plays if you don't have another person on staff who can teach them. Siriani is not the right head coach for unproven coordinators. If the formula is win the super bowl every year and lose your coordinators, then you need a better head coach.

Sirianni is an "Andy Reid head coach." Not Kansas City Andy Reid. But he's better - and far more experienced, including an offensive assistant - than Eagles Andy Reid. The way I remember Andy Reid is, we all knew he did great things but the Eagles still lost because of his coaching and clock management. This city complaining about winners is not entirely new.

Brian Johnson was in over his head with only one year of NFL experience (his single year as Eagles QB Coach). Patullo actually has more experience as an NFL assistant overall and is older than Kellen Moore. We only got Moore because he was on a 5-12 team and the HC got fired in San Diego. The Cowboys were 8-8 and 6-10 in his first two seasons as OC. Eagles' don't have that luxury. No doubt Patullo is not getting it done and Sirianni has not been suited to be both HC and hands-on offense guy. But it was not unreasonable to promote from within. Unfortunately, unlike with Moore last year (remember when they were 2-2 and the players called a meeting?) things never got better.

Sirianni is an "Andy Reid head coach."

No he is not, Sirianni cannot call plays & cannot fix the broken play calling. Andy Reid had that skillset. Whatever Sirianni's strengths are, he is not a play caller as evidenced by the two seasons where his OC is also not a play caller. As I've stated before, he is a great head coach when everything goes well but is not a good head coach when there are issues. Many head coaches in the league will take over play calling responsibilities when an offense struggles like this. That is the kind of head coach philly needs. You could make the argument that philly would have the exact same results if Sirianni was not here.

My point about Andy Reid was that he is a head coach who can afford to have an OC learn on the job because a) he can teach him and b) he can cover the gaps while he learns. Siriani has proven that he cannot do this in 2023 and 2025. He is not an Andy Reid type head coach.

The entire issue is the skillset of being able to call plays effectively in the NFL. This is something some people have and some people don't have. Right now, its a gap on this team.

I appreciated Andy Reid when he was in Philadelphia. I loved the season when they lost the Super Bowl, I loved the NFC championship games. I was sad to see him go but also felt like he needed to go for personal reasons due to his son's death. Regarding Andy Reid's clock management - yes that was a deficiency and at the time I said he should hire someone just to manage the clock. Not to bleed topics, but one of the most impressive things that I liked about Rick Tocchett's preseason interview was how he described his enormous coaching staff. He said something to the effect of "i am not good at that so i hired so and so to do that". That's what a good head coach does, recognizes what he cannot do and has someone on the staff to cover that responsibility. Bad head coaches ignore their blind spots.

Obviously people remember Andy Reid and his clock management. I think Reid's biggest problem in Philly was not letting McNabb audible. I'm not sure if that was a Reid problem or if he didn't trust McNabb to do so. This year it seems like the Eagles are much better when Hurts audibles vs when he doesn't.

If Reid had the roster that the Eagles have had the last few years, then he would have likely gone to multiple SBs and may have won a ring. The Eagles were much better when TO came to town, but his tenure was short lived. They missed on Reggie Brown and then DJax, Maclin, and Shady came on when McNabb was on his way out and the window was already closing.

Sirianni seems like a players coach (so was Reid), but I think his game decisions are questionable and he isn't nearly as good at calling or designing plays like Reid is/was.

Two 2025 Eagle-ish games yesterday. First, one team that should have blown away an inferior opponent won by a few points. In the other, the winning team did basically nothing offensively for 3 quarters but looked like a real offense long enough in the other part of the game to win.
