He can’t block, at least he can’t yet. Weird that Howie said a month or so ago he had to focus on Tight Ends who could block as well as receive, and then drafted one of the worst blockers on the list, admittedly one of the highest ceiling receivers/athletes.

Bell isn’t sliding into guard any time soon. His lower body is underdeveloped and he’d get murdered by big 3-tech DTs. Bell is a red-shirt tackle project who is going to spend lots of time in the weight room. I would have preferred the best fitting safety at that pick, or BPA O-lineman that isn’t a redshirt, who was probably Tiernan, Barber, or Pregnon. Or a good CB. Got to hope the Eagles know something about Bell that the public scouting hasn’t discussed. He is an unusual Roseman pick, he was quite a bit lower on the consensus board than where Howie took him. Howie almost always picks guys who are ranked higher than the pick he’s making.

Eagles got a 2026 7th round pick in the Greenard trade, too (#244).

I really think you have to throw the consensus out for this draft. I mean, just look at the run of TEs that went way too high yesterday compared to consensus boards. It's a weak draft and a lot of prospects are rated in the same group by a lot of teams.

This. 68 was higher than expected for Bell, but if you see my post pre Day 2, I said 80. You can try and get cute and pick up some extra capital, but all it takes is one team to be in love with him and you wind up with egg on your face.

Howies press conference made it clear that he was their guy because of his unique physical traits.

Chuck - agreed, this guy isn’t moving inside, he’s a redshirt and develop to see if he can take over from Lane.

I also think people may have to move off of the Becton reclamation thing for the Eagles moving forward. Not sure the are going to be prioritizing the physical, explosive engagement, road graders that excel in duo blocking concepts moving forward. I think lateral movement, pass protection skills will be more valuable for the offensive scheme it seems they want to implement.

Allar went a lot higher than those mock draft generators seemed to expect (from what I recall, it looks like all the ones people posted here in March are now dead images).

Allar at 6’5” 230 with the arm talent he possesses and decent enough mobility was primed for a team to take a chance that his processing skill deficiencies were a situation where they could coach the Franklin out of him.

It remains to be seen if they can, but not surprised that someone bet on him that high because the reward is very, very high even if the probability is low.

I think most evaluators are looking at him and saying, “wow, he’s got some physical traits but, aaagghh, he’s a mess above the shoulders and below the waist in the pocket. Way too much has to happen for him to make it.” But there are 32 teams and probably a couple of them are willing to take the gamble that exposure to high level coaching may fix that. By all accounts, he’s a hard worker.

Agree about Allar...all in all, I think he’s about as good as Simpson, and Simpson went in round 1. The simulators had Allar still on the board in round 6 which was never realistic. it will be interesting to see if he’s better with NFL coaching.

Yeah, probably even a tad better than Simpson from a skill level potential perspective, But Simpson is miles and miles ahead of Drew in the things that Drew needs to improve to be viable in the NFL.

They are basically giving McCarthy two young QBs (and both from PA) to try and get one (or at least a very good long-term back-up).

I suppose even as bad as Allar was at times he probably goes this high or higher if he'd been healthy too (or he could have gone lower if he'd played even worse).

Didn't the Rams GM tell Ty Simpson to declare for the draft and then drafted him higher most pegged him? Although my comment about Bell also applies to the Rams. How far is safe enough to trade back and still get your guy? It's the reason that the Steelers shouldn't have expected the Cowboys to take defense and/or another team wouldn't trade for that pick.

You look at a QB and say "We think this kid has issues," but he turns into a HOFer. So, the next (and next, and next) time you think "We think this kid has issues" you think "Oh, but wait, remember ...."

Bowry just went off the board 25 picks ahead of projections.

Eagles brought in Bell, Bowry, and Isaiah World. Interesting to see when World goes - most mocks have him around 140. Quite possibly the Eagles are ahead of the curve on these guys and 68 was a good call on Bell.

Cole Payton, QB, in the 5th round. Dual threat guy 700+ rushing yards, FCS offensive player of the year. A guy I drafted in my mocks probably 25% of the time at this pick or 197. Developmental guy to hopefully take the place of McKee next year. Dalton will this year - he is a very capable 2.

McKee on trade alert. Probably one of the most attractive options for a team that finds itself in the position of needing to add a ready to play QB during training camp. Low cap hit, may be amenable to a short extension. Likely something comes up this summer where Howie finds a team willing to part with the 2 or 3 he wants for him. And next year’s draft will be much better than this one.

Take Micah Morris , G from Georgia. 9.9 RAS. Needs work on technique.

Eagles essentially locking up what normally would be priority UDFAs here on Day 3 in a normal draft year.

I still think they should take a kicker in the late rounds. Elliott has cost or changed the strategy in too many games and has diminished long FG capability. His extra point lack of reliability has hurt.

Probably my biggest Sirianni gripe is his basically driving Stoutland out of town. Unfortunately, we haven't signed an undrafted kicker.

I think I really like this draft even if it only produces Lemon, Stowers, and Greenard.

People might want to nitpick Lemon for his size and speed. Yes, maybe he will be limited on the outside, but he knows how to run routes and use his body. Looking at some of his film, he runs the under thrown out to perfection.

Yes, Sadiq is a freak, but so is Stowers... and being a former QB helps. Ok, maybe the rest are reaches, but with good upside. This is exactly what you do instead of taking De'Zhaun Stribling as the first pick of round 2. Yes, I know the Eagles were tied to him, but I don't think that early.

And Greenard. Even though it looks like a big number only half of it is guaranteed.

Oh, and that failed Jaire Alexander trade... It netted the team $900k and future cap credit.

What were the pre and immediate post draft grades for Jalyx Hunt? Bell falls right into that.
