Blue Jays fans throws beer bottle on field

So, most of you have seen the video by now of some moron in the Blue Jays outfield stands throwing a beer bottle at the LF trying to make a catch. Frankly, this is just simply unacceptable in today's game and I don't blame the Orioles CF for getting angry and basically challenging the fans in the area.

No fans came forward to say "I saw the guy". Obviously some did. Frankly, the Jays should lose a draft pick, see if that helps stop stuff like that.

a) Stop selling anything in a can or bottle. You can only get drinks in plastic cups. Annoying, there is a cost, but we already scan people to make sure they dont bring in weapons, why hand them one once they get in.
b) Require all teams to put in 100% surveillance camera for the stands. Very large cost, but not as bad as it may sound. It costs less than $500K probably.
c) Anyone throwing anything on the field is not just banned for life but also prosecuted. If it is from a season ticket that season ticket is cancelled and give the rest of the games to a charity.
d) Add 20 Police Officers or private security to each game and spread them around the stands. It won't catch everyone but it will catch many and when connected to the surveillance system. Honestly you may be able to get Police Officers to do it for very little (no?) pay if you let them bring 2 family members/friends for free.

I love having a beer or two while sitting in the stands watching a game. It is part of the experience, it is not reasonable to take it away in my opinion. I agree with the "closing the beer sales after 7 innings" idea, it reduces the number of drunks and maybe slows down the alcohol fueled response to critical plays.

Baseball Players should not have to "live with" this.

Don't give up freedoms for security. It won't make anything better. Bring the hammer down on the individual, don't stop everyone else from enjoying themselves.

Unless this sort of thing is happening on a regular basis then there is no need for real action. This should have been self policed by the area the guy was sitting in.

Yeah, this doesn't happen very often. Far less than foul ball injuries. A lot of places already require cups or make you take the caps off (including for water) anyway, which I hate, but this is why.

They caught they guy who threw a beer at Howard, I'm sure they'll catch this guy too. The cameras are already there for the most part. Hey, we had our own "jail" in the Vet (albeit for football not baseball).

So you think that innocent bystanders should be forced to 'police' this? I assume you just mean to point out to someone in authority?

I would argue that it is somewhat likely that someone doing this makes it not enjoyable for everyone? Not sure what freedom is being list by my suggestion, is it the cameras or the added security?

The cameras are, well, almost everywhere now. In the streets of a large city you are likely on camera some (most?) of the time.

The added security is just intended to stop egregious acts, not sure how that reduces the enjoyment.

Normally I am all for NOT adding oversight, but I do think this type of stuff happens way too often. Things get thrown on the field, this just happened to be in a critical game and caught on camera.

These seem like reasonable ideas time to add enjoyment not take it away, but maybe I am missing something. I can see where it gets us one step closer to a police state / Big Brother, but honestly people get alcohol and emotions going and some act very stupidly. We did actually have an event about 15-20 years ago where 2 morons ran onto the field and beat up KC's 1B coach pretty severely. Really nothing has been done to improve security since then.

Cameras might be everywhere in the US, they aren't everywhere here, and just because they are everywhere doesn't mean thats right. I hate the way the world is moving in terms of recording everything everyone does, and says. Why should I be on camera everywhere I go? I'm not a criminal, I've never done anything more than steal a chocolate bar when I was a kid. Freedom is important. It is being slowly taken away from people in the name of safety. We're no safer than every before, and the added "security measures" do very little to help us. I'd rather have more freedom than "safety".

The agree with everything you have said, and I too would point out someone who assaulted another person, but in this case no one did (apparently). I don't like the idea of depending on people to do that, it so often goes wrong (mis-identify, fear, etc)

I just think this is one of those exceptions, in large public crowds I don't really really mind the cameras, they are really simply a matter of fact and they do help find those that commit heinous acts.

There were plenty of photos and TV screen caps. We'll see if they got the right guy. The Blue Jays already had a plastic cup policy for the cheap seats, guess they didn't think they needed one for the lower levels.

I like your ideas, and I would have no problem with the cameras. I think if you're out in public these days you have to assume you are on camera anyway.
