It doesn't even have to be August. so long as he's under contract he can pitch in the playoffs. I assume, if it's an option, you still want to keep an eye on his workload, especially given how he finished.

Agree. Kind of against the grain for the Phillies, so I'm going to assume the talent was too much to pass up.

He's a pitcher, so as odd as itay seem I'm less concerned that he's been injured. I'm at a loss to identify more than a small handful of top pitchers who haven't had to deal with a significant injury in their career.

Did the rule change? I thought he has to be on the roster in August to be post season eligible

It's been a loophole forever. You have to be in the organization but not on the roster. K-Rod was not on the roster that year he made his Angels debut. Technically it requires an injury but even that is a huge loophole [for instance right now Moises Chaice would provide the opening].

In this case, sure, he'd have to be under contract and assigned to a minor league team [or even just Clearwater]. But that's all.

How concerned are you about the shoulder impingements he has had twice now once in High School and again this year.? Might be nothing. Probably reason why he was there at 26.
