Other minutes at the 3 go to

Minutes at the 5 go to
Embiid, Bona, ? (might be pick #35)

If Embiid were 100% of his 2-seasons-ago self, that is a championship contender. With what we expect from him now (60 games at 50% of peak?), it should be a fun team to watch that finishes around 6 or 7 in the East.

Is is it certain the Sixers can sign Grimes? Having made this pick they certainly can't sign Grimes and Yabu both (and keep Oubre), barring other moves.

I guess I'm jealous of your (probably healthy) perspective. I mean, the Phillies have been fun team to watch while never winning or even getting closer to a championship over the last three years (including this one, for now). Is that what this Sixers team with Joel and George should settle for? I want to see them either figure out how to be a Top 4 team with those guys or move on from those guys, even if actually moving past their historic peak (second round) seems unlikely in any case.

I wrote this on another board today--I watch pretty much every Sixers game most years, all 82 regular season match ups, and I want to watch good basketball--effort, defense, sharing the ball, movement, and good shooting. A team centered around the 4 guards could be that. When Jo was on the court, even at his best, it was all about Jo and the players orbiting around him. I loved him and his talent, but it honestly wasn’t that much fun to watch, given Jo’s immobility and Tobias’s lack of basketball IQ. I think this team could be more fun, and, honestly, be just as successful. Hoping Jo figures out how to be a part of that without needing the ball every possession. Lots of pick-and-pop and play good defense.

I seriously can't watch this team until Embiid is gone. I've been waiting a few years and I guess I'll have to wait one or two more.

Minor, but just another in the long list of examples of Embiid not being all-in despite all the excuses and claims to the contrary. TBF, he doesn't understand what it means to be all in, that's been evident from the start.

Sixers take C Johni Broome in the second round. Even though I know nothing, I was hoping Noah Penda would drop but Orlando traded up to get him at 32. They passed on 7 footer Maxime Raynaud and super athletic Adou Theiro.

Broome's ESPN profile says he is a streaky shooter with limited defensive tools - what's not to like!

Broome is a small, strong, slow, non-shooting big with awesome offensive in-the-paint skills. More athletic than Okafor, who some online have compared him to. Intense competitor. Great screener, passer, and rebounder. Player of the year in the SEC. Crushed the opposition last season. Outworks people and played for a winning team. Good hands, good finisher. Old. Below-the-rim guy.

Don’t like them leaving Raynaud and Theiro on the board. Especially Raynaud.

Izan Almansa F Perth
Saint Thomas F USC

Milicic is a 6’10” stretch 4/5 who can pass but has shown inconsistent shooting success. Don’t know why we signed a guard unless they are unsure about Grimes signing. Lots of good guards and guard-adjacent players already. Sallis is 6’5” and a scorer with a good mid-range game. Almansa is a 6’9” switchable 4/5 who is a solid mid-range scorer and pick-and-roll threat (not so much over the rim). High effort defender. Saint Thomas (6’7”) is a physically strong wing who can defend 2-5. Offensively would be a spot up shooter, but his shot in college was so-so, although he is willing and has nice form. He’s a good rebounder, and unlike many 3 and D wings is good attacking close-outs.

Sallis is super projectable and (not that it means anything) was one of the best high school prospects of his class.

Yes, I like Sallis, probably the best of the UDFAs. His success could set up a pathway to trade a guard for a decent 4.

They have a lot of viable guards, some of them excellent...I want Butler back based on talent and that he has skills the other guards lack, and I want Walker back based on being a fan of a local guy who also has talent and tries hard.

This story says Grimes is asking for $25 million. But they can give that with Bird rights at least.

It seems pretty certain Yabu is gone unless he takes a major discount or the Sixers succeed in unloading a bunch of these other options/role player guys (including Oubre).
