It would be nice to get a couple more deals done, Joseph would be the obvious one that might actually bring something back (or Galvis), but really I give Klentak credit, he has already succeeded in this deadline, but a little bit more would be good.

Shame we couldnt come away with at least one high prospect, but by getting lower guys we really help our 40 man crunch that will be coming.

Looks like the Mets are about to send RHP Addison Reed to the Red Sox for 3 prospects. Reed is better than Neshek I think.

Nava is an August waiver deal due to an unfortunate injury.

Joseph has no value right now, no contending team will want to bet on him down the stretch.
IF, and given his erratic play, he finishes strong he'll have December value.

They're not trading Galvis with 5 young SPs and putting a rookie or journeyman at SS behind them.

I wouldn't be so sure. Aside from Benoit's ERA, he's put up some pretty good numbers and still has the velocity.

Problem is there's a half dozen RH RPs out there who are better than Benoit.
So we're talking a very limited return, maybe one marginal A ball prospect.

This is undoubtedly true, but it's also true that a limited return beats no return on an ancient reliever who will not be returning in 2018.

Gotta think the Phillies are done unless they can find a taker for Benoit, Nava (DL) or Soo Kim, which is the only head scratcher from the trades this weekend. Kim is a free agent at the end of the season and replaces Nava/Kendrick, but ..... and why did Baltimore want Hellickson? Anyway, agree with most previous thoughts.

If I were a betting man Benoit gets traded in August (for a very small return) as I don't see Nava passing through waivers.

Your Rupp, Hernandez, Glavis, Joseph, Hererra type moves, if they will happen at all, take place in the Winter.

I would not be surprised if the Phillies simply release Kim at some point. He does not seem to fit into any of their plans, either for 2017 or beyond. I suspect he was included in the deal for salary-balance purposes.

The O's trading for Hellickson was most definitely a head-scratcher. The argument I read is that they needed to stabilize their rotation here in the present and he was easily acquired. Otherwise, the O's are talking about being sellers with rumors of a Zac Britton deal abounding.

Absolutely true -- last trade deadline was when he needed to be moved. He has regressed badly this year, in every stat a potential acquirer might care to look at.

I'd say they're probably between $1 to $2M at this point.

It is 75%. So the Phillies at $4.75 million can acquire another $3.56 million. The Klentak reports indicate we have acquired more than a million. I am guessing it is closer to $1 million than $2 million from the way things are worded.

Also, these are not slots any more. Before you had to trade slots which were the equivalent of international draft pick suggested bonuses. 4 slots per team to simulate a 4 round draft. Now we can trade dollars in any amount. We have had about 4 deals though the first few were for players that were not even nominal prospects so those deals were probably for nominal amounts (like $100K). The O's deal is probably for the largest amount since we really received a lousy prospect for Hellickson. The Kendrick was somewhere in the middle, probably several hundred thousand.

We could probably acquire another $2 million in slots if we wanted to. Price is minimal so if that is what we get for a Benoit that would be great. Just depends on whether the team we are talking to is in the penalty and not planning on using their entire allocation.

This is probably correct. I think we acquired a few $100 K before the deadline deals and that has likely already been largely spent. Reading about the trades, I got the impression that we added another bit over $1 million in allocation. So we have acquired about half, or perhaps a bit over half, of the extra allocation we are allowed to trade for.

The Fulmer rumor that's been out there is that he's available to a team that would take Zimmerman and/or Justin Upton. The Phillies could certainly do that.

I saw one article comparing Kim to Schierholz, but Schierholz wasn't a free agent (he was non-tendered). Definitely about the money, and the Phillies have a spot for him (and no other OF on the 40 besides Cozens). There is certainly no downside to looking at him for two weeks. The player he was last year sounds like Klentak's type of player, though either way he's not a guy you give a 40-man space to in the off-season.

They could probably DFA him to bring back Nava and still end up keeping him, or drop a reliever temporarily until Nava is moved (if Nava doesn't clear waivers I'm sure they can make a deal, it will just be a PTBNL anyway).
