If you've watched this team since June 1, it has steadily improved despite losing Kendrick, Hernandez and Altherr.
They actually have a lot of talent on the ML squad, it's just raw and inconsistent.
And the only gap they'll have after trades will be Perkins/Stassi starting until Altherr returns, Lively/Leiter can step in for Hellickson, Therrien will probably replace Neshak, Ramos - Benoit.
This team will finish this season as a young, talented squad that's a couple years away.
So they should certainly trade the veterans if they can by deadline, but other than that, just play it cool.
This team will improve just by marinating, and it's not just the majors, I don't think it will hurt Cozens for example to repeat Lehigh. And Quinn needs to get healthy and play every day in AAA ball, Pullin needs AAA time. Kingery could start next year in Lehigh, as could Crawford.
Same with pitchers, Eshelman, Leibrandt, Thompson, Anderson, where Elfin, Leiter and Lively start the season remains to be seen.
Klentak should take the approach that he'll make moves when the time is ripe (either players force the issue or someone makes an offer he can't refuse).
I think the biggest upgrade on the field would be an elite hitting LH 1B or a top RH catching prospect who can actually hit, I'm ready to give up on Alfaro and Rupp. But any OF would have to be a great player to be better than what it seems we have, same in the IF. And I don't think there are too many 4+ WAR players at those spots who are 25 or under available (even Yelich has only one 4+ season, he's no Trout).
My suspicion is Klentak is going to load up with even more arms, especially A level arms (that don't have to be protected).
And he'll take his time making major trades this winter, maybe waiting until next July to clear out some logjams.
