Nats suffered a doubled edged sword to the stomach today. Their bullpen once again coughed up a late lead [4-2 in the 9th] and lost shortstop Trey Turner to a broken wrist, an injury that might bother him for the rest of the year.
I have been advocating an outside the box multiplayer deal for awhile now and it seems that the Phils might well interest the Nats with a Neshek/Galvis package for 3 young Nat prospects/players.
While Nestek isn't likely a closer, he certainly would give the Nats late game bullpen a lift and might be able to get a save here or there. The value of Galvis to a team with WS aspirations is self evident and with his numbers showing he is more effective offensively when hitting near the top of the order he might be a welcome antidote to the loss of top of the order hitting Turner.
If there is one team that desperately wants to get to the WS it would be Washington. They are perilously close to that stage in a sports teams shelf life where their window begins to shut and it would certainly help their chances of retaining Harper down the line if they could finally get to the WS.
My concern is that in their desire to maximize their return on Neshek he will be one injury [see Kendricks] from having no value at all and simply becoming yet another player to see July 31 turn into August 1 and still have a Phillie uniform on.
As for Galvis, I think he may have the greatest value he will ever have right now. He is playing well defensively, has power and is showing leadership qualities. In other words...trade him now when they can potentially maximize the return.
Its also worth noting that Guthrie looks like an awfully good shortstop prospect and might well be only 2/3 years from the major leagues, ala Kingery.
