I agree, Kendrick has done an excellent job. My only reason, to increase the value of the return. At this point, it doesn't really matter if Kendrick or Pedro Florimon keeps the 2B slot filled until Hernandez gets back.
There is a need in Toronto that can be exploited for prospects

On paper, perhaps, but I don't think you are considering the wailing and gnashing of teeth that would come along with making this bad team worse but replacing Kendrick with someone whose career OPS is 200 points lower.

I like your thinking (take advantage of some other team's need), but Kendrick would bring back a B grade prospect, and the Phils already have a traffic jam in the minors. Now, it would be interesting to speculate what Toronto might offer for Hernández if he wasn't injured.

They already have Devon Travis, he's just injured, so they don't need an already injured Cesar Hernandez. Many of what are considered "B level" prospects when first drafted step forward as they mature. I'm not expecting to hit the lottery, just get more than a few months out of Kendrick and Saunders.
You should never worry about having too many prospects.

Yep. Kendrick is gone after this season, as is Neshak and Nava, Garcia is 30.
I'd focus on A level arms, you'll get more upside that way and you can never have too many young pitchers.
Unfortunately, I don't think we could get a bag of baseballs for Saunders or Gomez, but maybe a couple bats for Hellickson.
But the others have value for a playoff contender, even if it's just bullpen depth, in this age of 6 inning pitchers, that has solid value.

Together, those two had 2017 contracts (including Saunders' 2018 buyout) of $13.2 million. Figuring that 5 of 12 semi-monthly payments have been made for services rendered, that means they're writing off 7/12 of $12.2 million, plus Saunders' $1 million buyout - or about $8.1 million altogether.

With Kendrick at 2B there is potential playing time for Williams full-time if they wanted to.

I am guessing they are trying to find a buyer for Nava and Perkins is only getting a couple of starts a week for now and it is easier to do that with the lesser prospect.

Good moves by the Phillies. It was time to pull the trigger. I am guessing both clear waivers though it would not surprise me if somebody takes Saunders after that if the Phillies are paying his entire contract. A number of AL teams might want to see if he can do better with a change of scenery and no effective cost. He was in the All Star game less than a year ago after all.
