Rather than continuing with AF's nonstop arguments about the worth of Darvish, et al, I would like to think out of the box a little in terms of under the radar guys the Phils might be able to get for Hernandez. I am looking at 3 lefties, Dirk Snell from Tampa and Andrew Heaney and Tyler Skaggs from the Angels.
I think Snell is obtainable. But, he seems to have continuing "head" problems with the Rays. For the past two years they have been talking about how he was ready to blossom and each year he seems to wilt. He seems to lack control of his stuff. Is he worth it, I don't think so.
Andrew Heaney ????? This is the guy I would go after. The Angels are not loaded at 2b (although they did pick up Brandon Phillips). This guy was a highly lauded pitching prospect just a couple of years ago. He was derailed by TJ surgery and he has struggled in this, his first year back, from TJ. But usually guys do better in the second and third years after TJ. So if we picked him up for next year it would be in his second year of recovery. He is still young and could regroup the skills he had that made him such a hot prospect. Obviously it would be a matter of what our scouts think of him as tries to come back. But this is the, being a lefty, that I think we should keep our eyes on.
Tyler Skaggs is another Angels lefty who has had injury problems. He was never as highly regarded as Heaney and he does seem to have some control issues. But is still young with room to grow.
So anyway, if anyone is interesting in talking about pitchers other than Darvish, Lynn and Cobb, I would be interested in what others think about these three and if there are other under the radar dark horses out there.
