Game 7 extra innings win: 1997.
Marlins over the Indians in 11 innings, 3-2.

Tough series loss for the Indians back in 1997 about to be duplicated here in 2016. Extra inning, game 7 loss.

Well not going to be a piece of cake. After scoring 2 and leaving the bases loaded in the top of the 10th, Edwards gets the first two outs, but then walks a batter who takes second (DI). R. Davis single to center makes it an 8-7 game.

Nice thing about baseball, there is no clock. Here we have a game where every pitch could end the game and give the Cubs the WS win or end the game with a win for the Indians, or just continue the game. Gotta love baseball.

Montgomery comes on to pitch for the Cubs.

Michael Martinez is the hitter for the Indians. Two outs in the bottom of the ninth, down a run.

Wow, big time pressure.

It's never over 'til it's over, and it's not over yet. Cubs take an 8-6 lead in the top of the 10th; Edwards gets the first two outs in the bottom half, then walks Guyer. Guyer advances to 2nd on defensive indifference, and Rajai Davis singles him home. Another pitching change, and Montomery is in to face...MiniMart!...who represents the winning run (or the final out).

Predictably...CUBS WIN! CUBS WIN! (with apologies to the late Harry Caray)

Chapman gets the win for the Cubs after the blown save. Montgomery comes on to get the last out and register a save (his first in majors). Have to tip the hat to Chapman being able to come back out and pitch a scoreless ninth after 3 runs scoring after he came on in the 8th. Kudos to the Cubs for not letting blowing a 4 run lead cause them to fold.

Great story for baseball. Cubs win WS for first time in 108 years. Hard not to like the story unless you are an Indians fan. At least the Indians have won a WS in my lifetime. Sadly, that makes me old. Against the Giants or Mets, I would have rooted hard for the Indians, but good to see an old and fabled franchise like the Cubs finally get this championship. The Indians had a fine season and Cleveland also has longed for a WS winner for a long time, although 40 years less than the Cubs. This was a series where I would have been happy for either team if they won and sorry to see the losing team not get their championship.

Now lets get down to business and get the Phillies back into post season and on to another world [strike]*******[/strike] championship.

Interesting note in the top of the tenth inning. The Indians issued two IBB and each was followed by an RBI hit. Not saying that the IBB was a bad move in the given situation, but if sure came back to haunt Tito in that inning.

LOL, yea, I keep forgetting to remove the message.

For those that have not looked, the new "format" makes messages look like a conversation (easiest explanation). I have seen it before, not strongly positive or negative in my opinion but I have noticed that people tend to write shorter messages because of the format (just my opinion). I think that is a bit of a loss for a board like this as a few of us tend to sometimes write fairly long but well thought out posts. Nothing stopping that really, but it doesn't happen in the format.

Thanks as always to the Admins (and Chris) for their hard work. I am sure there will be some issues but we will get used to it and find the advantages also.

Is this the first time a WS Game 7 has gone extra innings? I cant think of one unless it happened before 1940.

The game was indeed still on when I got up this morning, and i got to see the 10th inning. After they brought Montgomery in, MLB's at bat fizzled out on me. No updates, no pitch record. I thought the rains had hit again. I had to go on another site to find out that the Cubs had indeed ended their 108-year drought. Congratulations Epstein and the Cubs. Sorry for Indians fans everywhere. That was a really tough loss.

great series and yes, i was rooting for either team to win. extremely jealous of the cubs, not because they won but how they did it. best record in the league and followed through with it. this is the way '11 should have ended up, with the best record winning it. even though it is 5 years ago, it still haunts me. there should have been at least one more world championship for that group of guys. Ugh !!!

A magnificent game 7, had every facet of baseball that I love all in one game.

It is series and games like this that convince me even more that MLB should just leave the game alone. It is really special and messing with it will only harm it IMO.

Can you imagine how helpless a feeling it must be to play a whole season, make it all the way to Game 7 of the World Series and to have your last hope be Michael Martinez?

He may be the youngest guy to ever be a lock in the HOF from a front office/coaching/umpiring job. I dont like either the Red Sox or Cubs, but you have to respect what Epstein has done.

My fear is that the next big job for him in a few years is going to be to make the Yankees formidable again. That will really make me dislike his success.

Francona has been building quite a legacy himself. But he took a big hit with his move to insert Mini-Mart as a defensive replacement for Crisp which made no difference in that inning but wound up saddling the Tribe with Mini-Mart batting with the tying run on base with 2 outs in the bottom of the 10th. There was no reasonable scenario where Mini-Mart was going to help Cleveland's offense in a tight game.
