Will leave to the mods to decided if it's worth breaking into leagues or rounds after the play-in games.

I was just reading today that Buck Showalter is a bullpen usage genius (which he maybe was until he wasn't, tonight).

Wow, pretty brutal losing a 1 game playoff in extra innings with your All-World closer stuck to the bench waiting for a situation that never occurred.

That's a tough call, actually. The Orioles had a deep, good bullpen this season. Of course, the question becomes when should Showalter have used Britton? The 9th? The fateful 10th?

Well, here's one analysis

Personally I think it's not that complicated, it's one thing to follow the book up to a point but he should have been in instead of Jimenez. He has gotten more than three outs and entereed games with men on base before. And if you liked Jimenez, you were still gonna like him the game was still tied in the 12th.

Rumor is that the Mets have an experienced closer available this off season.

Fans at Citi Field are urging the trade.

Bumgarner off to a fast start in the 2016 post season with the four hit, complete game shutout of the Mets tonight. Syndergaard also with a strong outing going 7 innings of 2 hit shutout ball, but with ten Ks, his pitch count reached 108 in those 7 innings, and the Mets went to the bullpen.

The best closers are definitely nine-inning starters.

MadBum throws 119 pitches for a complete game shut out. His first three innings were a pitching clinic. Syndergaard gets his Ks and is finished after seven innings. I get it that piling up the Ks is a flashy thing but if it costs IPs is it worth it? Is it worth the stress that it puts on the pitchers body? MB looks as though he's just cruising when he pitches. Getting outs without hardly any stress with his delivery. I sure wish that the Phillies could get the point over to Velasquez that he'd be better off being a Bumgarner than Syndergaard.

Cole apparently hit a bad stretch at the worst possible time.

In those last six starts, Hamels has a 6.75 ERA, 1.72 WHIP, .370 batting average on balls in play against, a 4.62 FIP, and has averaged 4.50 walks per nine innings.

Hamels had two outs and a runner on first in the third inning when things went bad. The runner was a walk (to the 9th hole hitter with one out) and was the second walk of the game given up by Hamels who had at that point not given up a hit. Then a double, single, single, walk, triple made it a 5-0 game before Hamels got the third out in the 3rd inning. The 4th inning didn't go any better for him, with a lead off home run followed by a one out single and then an error. That was all for Hamels today.

Diekman pitched the 9th and gave up 3 meaningless runs on 4 hits and a walk.

Some Ranger fans might start rethinking the trade if this keeps up.

I think MLB needs to look at replay and calling a runner out for coming off the bag when sliding into a base.

I can remember how skeptical people were of the Sox locking up Porcello (and refusing to get Hamels), funny how they both wound up going in the same spot today. Hope the Rangers can get to Cole's next start.

So, one of the teams I am rooting for in this series won, Cleveland, and the other lost, Texas. Now go Cubs and LA (only because of Utley and Ruiz) and I hate the Nats.

What a concept. A manager actually thinking about what is needed and not being bound to the "book" that tells you when you can use your best reliever(s).
