AF, Torts lost the team when he treated his players wrong. It’s hard to go down the roster and not find one that he didnt dump on. IMO things here broke on him when he tried to embarrass Couturier last year. With that he showed that he’d kick anyone under the bus at his will. Then he started the same trash with Michkov at the start of the season.
The best way to deal with Tortorella is to do what the Columbus GM did with him. Put him on ice and ignore him. He wanted an extension there and wasn’t getting it. His shelf life had expired. Kekalainen and later Davidson just chose to ignore him until he was gone. They didn’t dump on him; just let him go.

Even this year at the exit interviews, Couturier was soft about Tortorella but the distaste for the guy and his treatment of players came through. This comes from the classiest of people who has never said a negative thing about any of the Flyers in his career. Even when Laviolette was chaining him unnecessarily to a bottom six role.

I'm gonna need you to Google this one for me. I could only find the March 2024 alumni weekend, which he was a part of. Plenty of guys on that team revere him while also hating him, just like Ken Hitchcock or Dallas Green.

And Torts took Columbus to the playoffs four times in six years (missed the year he took over and the year he'd obviously worn out his welcome). They have not made it back to the post-season once since then. He was not the problem there.

Rangers in advanced talks to hire Mike Sullivan as coach, sources say

The deal is expected to be one of the richest coaching contracts in NHL history, the sources said.

David Quinn, Sullivan's top assistant in Pittsburgh, is not expected to join him in New York. Quinn will be a candidate for other head coaching vacancies, including Pittsburgh, according to sources.

John Tortorella is a strong possibility to re-join the Rangers as well. Sullivan, Quinn and Tortorella were all on the coaching staff for Team USA at Four Nations.

I don't think Torts lost the team, I think he just burned out.

I don't care what is said in the media. Torts was gone with Michkov and Couts saying that he was trying to do what best for the team.
