For the "Holland-ites" out there who were wondering if we would see a discernable change in Phillies drafting out of Texas this year (guess that should read "me"), short answer would be "No."
Four picks out of Texas this year, all in Rounds 20+. No HS kids.
Down a bit actually from recent years when drafted 4 (2018), 8 (2017), 6 (2016) and 1 and 2 in 2015 and 2014.
During this 6 year stretch we have only drafted 3 HS kids (all Rounds 28+) and only signed 1 (Jaylen Smith in Round 29 last year). Smith was inauspicious last year in GCL and is either in Extended Spring Training still or perhaps gone.
Only Top 12 picks were the recently traded Jake Scheiner (Round 4 in 2017) and the Martinelli kid from Dallas Baptist in Roung 6 in 2016. Also, Matt Shortall who was a $5k sign in 2014 in Round 10.
Also only 1 kid from Arizona and zero from Colorado this year.
