In the Seventh Round, the Philadelphia Phillies select
RHP Brett Schulze, University of Minnesota
No College Seniors Yet for us FWIW
8th round pick Nate Fassnacht, Junior shortstop out of George Washington, is from Ephrata (Lancaster county) - likely bleeds red pinstripes.
In the 8th Round, the Philadelphia Phillies select:
Nate Fassnacht, SS, George Washington University, DC
First somewhat oddball pick. He appears to be a college junior so no senior sign aspect.
Fassnacht looks like he can hit:http://www.ephratareview.com/sports/fassnacht-day-no-fassnacht-month/
Probably a utility prospect. Not sure any junior signs much below slot though.
No more shortstops for a bit please....
I like balance but the one thing about shortstops is that they can kind of play anywhere except catcher. Hard to tell where they will end up.
In the Ninth Round, the Philadelphia Phillies select......
1B Rudy Rott, Ohio University , Senior
Rott was the 2018 and 2019 Middle American Conference Player of the Year. Apparently decent defensively at 1B; probably not going to play anywhere else.
Tenth Round: McCarthy Tatum, 3B, Fresno State
He’s listed as a Redshirt Senior so I don’t know whether he’s a bargain sign or not
MLB's tracker lists him as "5S," which I believe means fifth-year senior - that would make sense if he red-shirted a season, but has nonetheless exhausted his NCAA eligibility. My interpretation is that he'll be a 5-figure sign.
Could be a 4 figure sign like they did with Listi - $5K.
As always I'm interested in our first pick on day 3. Don't know whether we shaved enough money to get a top 500 HS guy. Not sure we saved anything before the 9th. Maybe
JT Realmuto disagrees with you
Seems like we did really well relative to the fangraphs list, Jeff Ellis's board and even mlb.com. Less so against BA's list but I'll roll with fangraphs anyday
For our #8 pick, there will inevitably come games where he goes hitless. Do we write that he took a donut in the hit column?
And, c'mon, Schultz in round 6, and Schultze in round 7? You know those names are constantly going to be reversed.
They'll fit right in with McPhail and McCutcheon.
It's not quite as bad as you make out; there's no "t" in Brett Schulze's name.
I read that Fassnacht is a Phillies season ticket holder.
