Hey all,
So, the newsletter in its past form is no more. It was a good run. I loved working with all of the people at PHLY, reconnecting with a bunch of old friends and making a bunch of new ones. Tough biz, but hey, 2.5 years is not a short amount of time in this industry! Thanks to everyone who read and listened during that time.
Ah yes, why you are probably here...
I am toying around with the idea of going the independent route, and writing a similar, but better Philly sports newsletter.
Why better, you ask?
In this scenario, I would not also have to podcast 80-ish times per year, go to Eagles games and perform any of the other responsibilities I had there (good work if you can get it, but time-consuming especially on game nights).
And I could draw from any source I wanted to, instead of mainly sticking to one company (although I would still draw from the excellent writers and podcasters at that company when appropriate).
Unlike the last one, this daily newsletter would not be free. Maybe some of it would be, I don't know. I have no idea what it would cost or what other form it would take outside of the 220-ish, 2,000-3,000 word daily newsletters per year. Maybe I would add columns with the additional time I have? Maybe I do Sixers film breakdowns for the true sickos? This is all new to me, but like I did with the last one, I would certainly not half-ass it.
And hey, that might be a non-starter for some of you. That's perfectly fine! I totally get it. But a whole lot of you read the old newsletter every single day, so I figured let's see how many people are interested in this idea. This is an exploratory mission: I am not holding you to anything right now, so please do not hold me to too much either.
So, if that is something you might be interested in, please drop your email below. I will either:
1. Send you a more detailed follow-up email, if I decide to move forward with this new venture
OR
2. Do absolutely nothing with your email, if I don't
I will leave this sign-up form here for a few weeks to (hopefully) let the emails pile up. Until then, my Sean Mannion takes stay holstered. And if you know someone else who is missing the newsy, as I always say...
Spread the word, spread the word!
