Rotation without McCain:

Guards: Maxey, VJ, Grimes
Wings: George, Barlow, Oubre, Watford, Walker, (Edwards)
Centers: Embiid, Bona, Drummond

Other guys: Broome, Gordon, Sallis, Lowry, McCain(inj)

I’m assuming the main rotation is:

G: Maxey, VJ, Grimes
Wings: Oubre, Barlow, Watford, Walker
C: Embiid, Bona, Drummond?

If Watford is out, Edwards may get his time. Drummond will play, but mostly he will get his time when Joel isn’t dressed. Watford, George, and McCain will get their time and displace others when they are healthy.

Wednesday Starters: Maxey, VJ, Oubre, Barlow, Embiid //or// Maxey, VJ, Oubre, Embiid, Bona //or// Maxey, VJ, Grimes, Oubre, Embiid

Celtics starters?? PG: Payton Pritchard, SG: Derrick White, SF: Jaylen Brown, PF: Sam Hauser, C: Neemias Queta

34 pts for Edgecomb, most pts for a rookie debut since Wilt in 1959. He looked like a 7 yr vet on the floor, really impressive.

Embiid with 4 pts, 1-9 shooting and -16 in 20 mins. Got zero mins during crunch time, yikes. I get it is his first game back, but man that was brutal to watch. Between him & George who is still injured, we have some serious sunk costs on the payroll.

He's played in one professional basketball game(preseason) since April of 2025.

If Embiid and paul can even be 60% of their former selves this team could be fun to watch...especially if the offense doesn't have to be forced through them.

I honestly believe that FOR THE TEAM it would be better if he was just written off as injured and stayed away from the team. Not wishing any injury on anyone for their sake, but it would be much better to separate now rather than try to make this work out.

We have an established star and an ascending one to lead the team and set the tone. I do not think it will work out well with Joel accepting a minimalized role and not having the offense flow through him.

There are issues, leaks to the press, etc., etc. on the horizon. It’s inevitable. This is Maxeys team now, not his. And that’s the way it should be.

Buckle up.

If what you;'re saying is true...this team is pretty much up a creek...not only are they barely a 500 team wiithout Embiid and PG3 but unless the bottom falls out, they have no first round pick this year since the pick only has a top 4 protection.

This team with Embiid can at least play competent basketball...with out him...that isn't super achievable.

I get the context; it is just shocking that he was one of the top 5 players in the NBA and now he is....nowhere even in the same zip code as that. Hopefully, he can recover to some decent level, but I suspect not. Unfortunately, I think that is the legacy of this era of the 76ers. A lot of hope and hype and very little results due to horrible owner/management decisions and bad luck.

We have Maxey, McCain and now Edgecomb, but pretty depressing otherwise

I'm not sure it's even that shocking. Bill Walton, Sam Bowie, Yao Ming, Andrew Bynum, Greg Oden. Some of those names accomplished more than others but the breaking down is inevitable. What's maybe more shocking is the ones who didn't.

And he's 31, we start writing off the baseball players then too.

I think there is a nice middle ground where he plays less (he was on a minutes limit last night) and is effective, maybe even tradeable. Otherwise the worst-case scenario is probably the best-case scenario - retirement.

The Celtics game was enjoyable. Maxey is such a joy to watch. I find him the alter ego of Inverson. Both play with energy and determination and ability to put the team on his back when needed. AI was the negative pole and Maxey the positive. AI played with a chip on his shoulders and a me against the world kind of attitude. Maxey plays with a joy de veivere. He has always looked like he loves what he is doing. Can’t wait til McCain comes back.

Embiid isn’t cooked because of what he showed vs Boston. He was better in the scrimmage and in the final preseason game. We don’t need to make a decision now; it will all work out with time. give it a month or two for them to find the right balance.

I get what you’re hoping for, but that is likely only coming with a new team for Joel. Not here, where he’s been the center of the universe for ten years.

This is the way it’s played out with all of the other aging front courts mentioned in this thread.
