I think it would be amusing if he hangs in there, gets the nomination confirmed, and then bails... oh, along about September 15th, when the polls indicate that he’s lost Wyoming, too. Watching the GOP turn on itself fighting over whether to just anoint Mike Pence (the guy who was managing to lose his Governor’s seat in Indiana, of all places, a half-wit fundamentalist who actively discounts science in favor of superstition), or try to slap together some kind of back-room process to elevate a Nikki Haley, or Mitt Romney, or who knows who else, as the “nominee.”
If the Republican Party was going to dump Trump in favor of somebody who is neither an idiot nor mentally ill, the time was last winter, before they cancelled most of their primaries. Their convention is falling apart, due to Trump’s stubbornness and CV-19; there is no credible process for selecting a candidate after the convention (Ronna McDaniel is just going to pull a name out of a hat? The RNC will choose somebody? How? They’ll poll the Shelly Adelsons and put up whoever the fat cats want?). It would be classic Trump, though; bail out when the going gets tough, and leave utter chaos in his wake.
This is what Trump has always been. “I take no responsibility at all.”
