Reason I'd trade Sosa is he can start for a lot of teams so he has more trade value than value as a backup.
Stott can play SS and they have plenty of backup types in AAA ball. And Miller can probably play SS as well as Turner at this point in his career.

Marsh would be more "our disappointment for your disappointment" type deal.

With a year of arb, they might do a 2 year deal for Ranger, but I doubt they go long-term given his durability issues.

Hay might get traded with one year left, as a platoon RH, Wilson might be just as good and a lot cheaper for a year.

Since Ricones and Crawford are both LH, there is a RH gap in the OF going forward, a good reason to keep Castellanos, the contract is a sunk cost and he won't get you much in trade.

Very few of these guys have good values in the offseason. What team wants Castellanos right now even if the Phillies eat a bunch of salary? Stott - selling low. Marsh - selling low. Bohm - selling low. Gotta wait until the deadline when other teams have holes to fill and supply is limited. Suarez has value, but again, selling low. Everyone, not just us, saw his second half. If you want a rebuild or significant retool, I think you wait until July.

What does Sosa realistically get you in return? Hays, same thing. Phillies gave up junk to get Hays, so why expect anything for him this time - he hardly played.

As a fan it hurts to say it, but the best scenario might be a mediocre first half in 2025.

I think the one move takes care of the other. They just need a bigger middle-of-the-order bat and for Bohm and Nick to be more complementary.

Sosa is certainly replaceable, but I don't think his trade value is that of a starter for any kind of good team.

Marsh is still a really good player. Just not an everyday player. And as Gelb noted:

The team’s .708 OPS from the outfield ranked 16th in Major League Baseball. At times, it was a glaring weakness. The larger context suggests it was just average.

Hays is a non-tender if you don't keep him. He barely had trade value in July, it's not better now.

Hey, they should have taken my advice and gone for a left-handed bat (Winker) rather than a right-handed one (Hays). They really did not see that they had that short platoon essentially covered with Wilson. They lacked the left-handed bat that could have replaced Rojas in some lineups and given them some depth behind Marsh.

Well that just highlights how flawed DD and Thomson's assesment of Hays was. They really liked him, and thought he could play every day.

Bohm and Bregman had a very similar offensive year. Bregman is 2.5 years older... Spotrac projecting him to get a deal worth $165 million over six years.

Bohm will probably get 10M or so in arb.. and its a 1 year deal.

Bold move would be to trade Bohm for an outfielder or pitching and play Weston Wilson at 3B where he might be pretty good. If Miller is your 3rd baseman after 2025, I'm not interested in a free agent like Bregman. I have more confidence in Miller being an above average major league regular than I do with any other position prospect (will Crawford hit enough, Caba and Tait are far away).

Bregman makes $30.5 million now and should get something close to that next year. Bohm makes $4 million and will get a small raise. How is moving Bohm offsetting anything here?

Bohm's "problem" is not that he is not a winning player. It is just that he is an average or slightly better than average player and our expectations are higher. He really is not hurting the team though when he is inexpensive. Bregman might be a winning player just like Anthony Rendon was a winning player.

Bregman's too old and expensive for this old and expensive team. Still super-valuable now, and in the field, but offensive #s ticking down each of the last two years. Would be another Turner, good bad and otherwise.

He's probably not leaving either. Question is, what happens to Tucker?

Tucker has another arb year. I doubt they trade him, but I'd have him on the Phillies' radar for 2026, even with a QO attached.

Moving Schwarber out of the leadoff spot is the first move I make.

Castellanos, Schwarber and Realmuto are the only $20 million contracts I could see them trading. Of those 3, I'd keep Schwarber and put him in the cleanup spot.

Castellanos has 2-years remaining. Baltimore potentially could lose Sontander, the Red Sox could lose O'Neill and the Dodgers could lose Hernandez and don't forget the Yanks will keep one of Soto and Verdugo. That is 4 potential landing spots for Casty. CFer - Rojas is the next Jackie Bradley Jr. which works if your left and right fielder can rake.

San Franciso or San Diego could possibly be interested in Realmuto.

I would not expect that to happen unless some bona fide excellent hitter is acquired who can only play 1B.

Good question. I think they give it another year before they grapple with it. We'll have a better idea of Miller by then and more info on Caba. Stott to SS does not seem like any sort of improvement, so until we have open spots around Turner and something better at SS I think we stay where we are for another year.
