Some have been out of patience with Kepler and Marsh for weeks, but both saved the game yesterday and showed why they're getting PT even while getting torn up at the plate.

Might be mistaken, but it looks like the Phils want Kepler to swing big which - so far - has gotten him a lot of mid-warning track routine outs. OTOH, huge, clutch HR yesterday and maybe we'll start to see more.

Marsh continued to get torn up at the plate, including taking a fat 3rd strike with the bases loaded. Then in extra innings pulls out off the air the 2-a-season 8 - 2 DP. Wondered how many of those in MLB history, but no stats available. JT's D showed up in that tag, too.

Sure am thankful to learn about the mound problem to explain away Sanchez' and Romano's performances. Sanchez had been steady as they come until yesterday. Here's hoping that gets fixed. After Wheeler took note of it, it should have been fixed already.

I believe this is the second year in a row that there is no Phillies game on Memorial Day Monday. I don’t get that.

yeah and I think they've taken July 4 off once or twice too. It's annoying. But, will take the day off from this road trip before a big home stand, which is probably part of the reason. They won't land tonight until 2 or 3 in the morning (or maybe they're even going to wait to fly tomorrow).

They could swap him for Lazar for a stretch if they want. The roster spot is technically Nola's (Walker will go back to bullpen then.)

Phillies acquired lefty reliever Josh Walker from Toronto for cash considerations. Walker, 30, goes to Triple A. They had an open 40-man spot.

That's the kind of player you get off the waiver wire. He's lefthanded, he's got an option, Phillies had a spot. Just being a LHP alone means he probably gets a look eventually.

Seems like a pretty good chance Hernandez will get DFAed when Nola comes back, not on merit exactly (though obviously he's nothing special) but because they would now be able to have an optionable/revolving spot between Lazar, Robert, de Gues and Walker. Johnson might get an audition too before it's time to bring up painter or make trades in Jully.

Phillies like to try to salvage big pitchers, hoping they can tweak mechanics and get a couple more MPH and/or improve command. Every so often they hit pay dirt.

This is more about never letting a 40-man spot go unused for more than a hot second. I actually don't think we are near moving on from Hernandez. He has shown enough that they will rotate out the decent arms with options like Lazar until they really need someone.

Painter might be the first promotion to force somebody out, but if Nola comes back then he is really going to wait for a rotation spot to have somewhere to pitch.

I really doubt they think they'll get more mph out of a 30-year-old journeyman with tweaks. This is lefty depth in case someone else gets hurt and we'll DFA him if we need to.
