Aaron Nola is going onto the IL (ankle sprain). Mick Abel will make his MLB debut on Sunday vs. Paul Skenes.

Taijuan Walker will rejoin rotation next week in Colorado.

Abel will make one start then return to Triple-A. Walker will take Nola’s spot until he returns.

Pitched two games with a bum foot. Sounds like he wanted to pitch through it, but it started affected him physically and clearly with the performance. Phillies didn't say anything because they didn't want other teams bunting on him.

yup, that would be the unlucky part, seeing a great pitcher at our expense. seeing Abel instead of the current Nola is a bonus tbh, more for the novelty than a dis on Aaron.

When I went to more games, I would try to see ace pitchers when they came to town. Usually they got shelled. I remember going to see Roy Halladay pitch for the Blue Jays, and he got dominated by Paul Byrd. I've seen poor performances by Clemens, Pedro, Nolan Ryan, and others.

I think I was at the Paul Byrd/Halladay game. At least I remember it well. Those kind of games, it's a kick if you win or you lose. I love it when the Phils have banged up Strider.

I may have been bad luck for Halladay. The only other time I saw him pitch in person was in game 1 of the 2010 NLCS. He got taken deep twice--by a guy named Ross!

That means he can't appear in the post-season either. Bullpen trade needs just ramped back up.

This is a complete disaster. Yea, we needed to make a trade before, now we need to make a few trades

Still won't happen before the All-Star break. Gonna have to keep using Hernandez, hope Ruiz comes back better, see what Lazar or someone else has. And for now they don't have Wlaker either.

Though one might wonder if moving Ranger back to closer or co-closer with Painter joining the rotation in a few weeks is the best move to make - baseball and prospect-wise in terms of trades.

It's still gonna be a big deal to "demote" Ranger and Painter really shouldn't be accelerated from that early July target. I don't think you panic or do anything drastic now, and it's moot until Nola comes off the IL. They survived the shaky parts of April to bounce back into the NL East race, and they can survive another swoon if there is one. More important that the bats keep going.

The current pen top to bottom even without Alvarado is probably still stronger than the '24 and '23 pens at the same time in those seasons (especially given Alvardo himself wasn't great last year, though that happened more later). It would just be nice if they can still develop another Bellatti/Hoffman/Ruiz (obviously Hoffman was the extreme success story) somehow.
