Sosa in LF tonight over Reyes with both Stott and Marsh in the lineup against a LHP.

They really need to send Reyes down. He probably should not have been called up in the first place. Not that Kemp is not great,, but Reyes probably should have most of a year in AAA to develop.

I believe he accepted the assignment (not sure though, a few outlets may have just misunderstood the transaction. You'd think a team would actually find a roster spot for him, they just didn't want to claim him).

Yeah, it’s not good to get shellacked early in back-to-back games when the strength of your team is starting pitching.

Which is why trading for Trout now would be such a bad idea. We had a winning streak, now fell back before smelling .500.

Nobody's trading for anybody now. We'll see where they are at the end of May. And at the All-Star break.

The article I read today about Sosa playing LF suggested the Phillies will indeed trade for a RHB OF, and nobody will be off the table. But hard to imagine that's really true if their position in July is what it is now.

I think that at the deadline the Phils will be in a strong position for a wild card and they will want to have the best record possible to avoid the Braves in the first round. Thus, they will be under pressure to "do something" to maximize their post season chances. If he is still playing well and, still playing, I can readily see how that "something" could be Trout. I could see a lot of speculation thru out all of baseball as to whether" Trout will finally return Philadelphia to help put the Phillies over the top". All the writers will be speculating about it. So I can really see it happening.

Really good to see that Mattingly isn't afraid to play Swiss-Army-Knife Sosa in LF. Wonder if he can pitch?

For some reason, the Phils' AAA players that hit well in AAA just hit the wall in the BIGs. Reyes and Kemp are the 2 latest examples. In ST it seemed there was real hope that Kemp had had a breakthrough and would become a solid RH bat off the bench and even compete for PT. Then the end came. (Really nice play by Reyes to reach a Realmuto wild throw on a wild pitch.)

The difference between the majors and AAA is just greater these days and stats from older prospects generally need to be taken with a grain of salt. Crawford's performance there meant much more than Kemp or Reyes who were both older. Yes,, injuries and other issues might have impacted their development, but physical development is even more important.

Kinda interesting.. we are 1/4 of the way through the season.. We have Schwarber on pace for 60+ bombs. Harper on pace for 40. Marsh is leading the league in BA. Those 3 guys have OPS above 885. Only one other team has 3. The Yanks. Even Alec Bohm is somehow on pace for 80 RBI.

We have a SP putting up Cy Young type numbers.. and yet we sit 3 games under .500.

Clear evidence, once again, that it is a team game.

The bad parts of the team - rotation inconsistency, mediocre middle relief, shallow lineup production and poor defense - have dragged us down.

The problem is those issues are pretty hard to fully fix unless we seriously pony up at the deadline and make room on the roster whereas the chances of Schwarber, Harper, Marsh and the other good parts of the team slowing down are higher.

It's always interesting when the pitching department thinks they can pick a guy off the scrap heap. The times they are right, we remember well. The times they are wrong, there's usually no harm (as opposed to when they are wrong about free agents). With lots of middle ground.

But mostly, the Phillies had a 40th roster spot and he has options. He could be gone in a week or a month. Or just stay in your namesake city all year.

Maybe they want to give him another try as a starter? They clearly need bodies in that area.

Big guy that throws hard. Kind of our MO. This was more about never letting a 40-man spot go empty. Whether he is here in a couple of months is an open question.

Reading through rumors, this showed up: "The Philadelphia Phillies could potentially make Jhoan Duran available in the right deal."

You have to be an advanced imaginer to come up with stuff like this.

Well a couple of weeks ago one could project us being in sell mode at the deadline. I think we have progressed to the point where we are more likely to add or stand pat. Duran with an extra year of control is probably not going to be available unless we are in a more complete sell off. Then we'd be talking expiring contracts but also potentially guys like Stott and Sosa and Marsh.

Well, anybody is available in the "right deal." Duran for Skenes? Sure!

But yeah, things would have to both crater hard and point to more of a two-year reset for our best short-term controllable players to be available this July. Any of them could still be in the off-season though.

And there's certainly precedent for moving on from a heavily used reliever as he gets older and more expensive (that tends to be more Milwaukee's MO, but the Phillies did do something similar with Strahm).

Gonna start seeing Marsh extension talk now, is my guess. Stott not so much. Sosa actually is an expiring contract already.
