Republicans and Trump really are out of bounds with these latest conspiracy theory attacks on the DOJ and FBI.
It is truly shameful that Trump and his congressional lackeys appear to have no parameters on what they will sacrifice to defend him regardless of the facts or even reality itself. Devin Nunes is a disgrace as a committee chairman and representative. Trey Gowdy shows again like he did with the partisan Benghazi hearings to be nothing more than a hack. Ron Johnson running with this "deep state secret society" allegation based on one text and an unnamed informant (anonymous sources what?) reeks of such desperation it is shocking.
I definitely wonder what the payoff is for this behavior or what Trump has promised them it will be later - do they think he will make them Secretary of State when Tillerson inevitably steps aside? Chief of Staff when Kelly finally gives up? National Security Advisor after McMaster finally realizes he is supporting a irrational moron who will never change? Are they that desperate to hang onto any power they can? Do they not realize, if they keep ripping down the foundations of our government institutions, that they are inviting even worse outcomes than Trump as the American populace gets angrier at their incompetence?
Some correction has started thankfully. I was so glad to see the letter from DOJ demanding Nunes hand over this mysterious "memo" his staff created showing FBI corruption "at the highest levels". Richard Burr, the chairman of the Semate Intelligence committee has requested to see the memo as well - Nunes has refused so far because he knows it is bogus. Still, Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell stay silent and do nothing - the leadership falls far short of acceptable. Trump continues to stoke the flames in any way he can. Then we have Fox News (really should re-brand as Trump TV), Brietbart, Info Wars, Rush and all the usual suspects carrying the torch for their little dictator.
The special counsel's investigation into Russian interference in our elections and any issues that arise from that i.e. , coordination between the Trump campaign and Russia in those efforts, obstruction of justice, money laundering, tax evasion etc. is perfectly legitimate.
We need to fully understand what the Russians did, how they did it, how to stop it and put into action plans to make sure it never happens again. Russian trolls and bots are making a lot of noise right now on social media for Nunes' memo to be released publicly. We need to know if the President or anyone in his campaign, transition or administration was helping those efforts work. There have been tons of contact with Russians by almost everyone around Trump and signs of fire with the Trump Tower meeting, Don Jr. spreading a link (provided to him by Wikileaks) to the stolen Clinton emails to his Twitter followers, Trump's digital agency reaching out to Wikileaks etc.
It is fundamental to our sovereignty as a nation, our integrity to hold free and independent elections and a national security issue that should be priority #1 for the government to address.
