After Bader's success leading off and with Turner's return, I'd hoped the order would go Turner, Bader, Harper, Schwarbs, but Rob just likes the Turner, Schwarbs, Harper option. OTOH, Bader started to hit at the top of the order, so why not leave him up there? If it ain't broke and all. Ah, well.

Win or lose, Nola is a real option for game #2. Dominant last outing. Maybe he can do it again. He's better at home, right?

I predict 5 - 15 inning games. GO PHILS!

Bader is not actually as good as his hot streak, and probably not his season either. He also cooled off, a lot. Just a .506 OPS past 14 days. The fact that he might be good enough to hit 6 or 7 instead of 8 or 9 is enough of a "gift."

Observations from Game 1:

1. Top of the order needs to produce if we hope to go very far in the postseason.
2. Even though his pitch count was hitting the 90s, I didn't see Sanchez hitting a bump in the road.
3. I've never been a big fan of Robertson's when with the Phillies; tonight didn't change that.
4. Strahm seems to be continuing his struggles in the back half of the season with HRs.
5. Still, I think Herndandez's HR qualified for what my dad used to call an 'eye-closed shot'.
6. Kudos to Bader for the defensive gem of a catch - hope the hamstring is nothing serious.
7. Sosa just missed sending it out of the park.
8. The announcer saying it 'would be a great story' if the Dodgers had found their closer apparently hasn't seen their payroll.
9. The bats need to produce more than three runs to win games against teams like this.
10. We need to win Monday's home game.
11. Kudos to East Fallowfield for taking the PBP tonight.

As soon as he had to go into the stretch he had to work twice as hard- it’s been a recurring thing, as well as how good he competes to finish the job.

Robertson…ugh, I still can’t believe they brought him back a third time. Even more so, I can’t believe Thomson trusted him to go back for an another inning. Surely all the stats said not to do that.

In theory Robertson, even at 40, should have been able to come back after facing just one batter, but he didn't look that good against Muncy (and Rob had already been outflanked by the move). Had he actually gotten the two outs Strahm would have faced Ohtani just the same but I don't think they wanted Strahm to start the inning (which means Robertson was the only option, any new RHP against Pages and Smith - not your normal 9 hitter - would have had to face Ohtani.

As our second-best reliever Strahm has to get Hernandez, even if the runners on base weren't his. Clearly they were not really to pull Sanchez.

And the offense let Ohtani off the ropes, but he was incredible. Glasnow is where we really needed to get back into it.

He's not wrong. It was a winnable game but we're not lamenting blown leads of 3-0 and 3-2 if the big bats show up, and it will be a short series - if they don't.

And unfortunately that is anything but a new storyline over the last several playoff runs.

No HR, 2 XBH and the other 3 singles.

Bader's injury also not a good sign.

Hopefully Bader can play through it or just needs a couple of days. Nick and Wilson or Kemp were already likely to start tomorrow, but Marsh would have to play CF against a LHP.

2-8 in their last 10 Postseason games. Common denominators--anemic offense and a leaky bullpen.

It is not that unusual for a group of star players to come up short. Until they don't. Or time runs out. The last group got it done early. The Braves of this era only did it once even as they swapped out key players. The Killer B Astros never did it, though their offense started to show up the last two times. Barry Bonds was only good once in seven postseasons (with or without PEDs).

Harper carried them for a while in '22 but he was already one of those ringless guys when we signed him.

I don't think age is any more of an issue than it already is (i.e. more for JT and Nick, and our injured pitchers). But with Wheeler out and LA healthy they not only have a better rotation than us but have far better excess arms cancelling out the bullpen advantage from the regular season.

No way they're doing that unless it's really bad. Especially since the next guy up has been hurt himself. Or, do you summon Crawford? (Edit: given the concussion and how long it has been since he played, surely not).

if Bader were to be replaced on the NLDS roster, he would become ineligible for the NLCS per postseason rules.

IMHO, after putting 2 on after 5 2/3, it was a good time to pull Sanchez. Hindsight is always 20/20, but the game could have been saved right there. Or mighta brought in a righty to face the mighty Teoscar.

Robertson re-earned his assignment to the never-without-a-5-run-lead sector of the Phils' pen, rightfully nailed with the loss. Here's hoping we don't have to learn this lesson again. In reaction to a poor performance, the Phils sometimes just put a player right back out there.

A chance to hang a loss on Ohtani gone in the air.
