Playing for both the Phillies and Cubs is not a very exclusive club. Velazquez will be the 320th to play for both teams. Before Kingery, the last three to join that club were Carlos Santana, Hector Neris, and David Robertson.

The only team with which the Phillies have shared more players is the Cardinals. Adolis Garcia became the 323rd in that club, preceded by Harrison Bader.

I was at Cole's no-hitter and everyone thought that's where he was headed then. He would have won a WS with them, presumably. He was still pretty good there in '18 and '19 but the team wasn't.

Reds signed Nick to a four-year $64 million deal in 2020. He very correctly opted out after 2021 though only the Phillies seemed that eager to sign him. Schwarber, meanwhile, had been non-tenderd by Cubs after 2020 and went on his 2021 tear with Nats and Sox.

Cubs had fired Mallee after 2017 and he went straight to Phils.

Rios was fairly decent for Boston after being terrible and getting cut by Seattle in 2021 but then no MLB appearances in 2022. Did he get hurt?

He was hurt last year, just didn't get out of AAA in 2024. They are both just bottom of the bullpen churn guys, though seems a little odd that VV pitched well and they'd go through the whole process of DFAing him and adding Rios to 40. But after pitching 2 1/3 innings on Saturday maybe they didn't think he could pitch today.
