To me stats at rookie and A ball are more about progess and tendencies than performance.
That is, with someone like Kingery, who lacks power, his inability to draw walks (both finishing his college career and starting his pro career) is a serious concern. Note I said concern, it's too early to know if this is an ingrained tendency or something he'll work on and improve. But to me it's more important than his BA, which could be attributed to aggressive placement. One reason I'm skeptical about Alfaro is I think his poor selection and ultra high K rate is ingrained at this point - whereas Williams showed serious improvement last year.
There's a reason they're called "prospects" (which to me is almost synonomous with "suspects"), they're "under development." Most don't break their basic tendencies, but we just saw Altherr change in one season, becoming much more selective, and maintaining that new found discipline through three levels of baseball. Maybe he was visited by the baseball ghosts (baseball past, baseball present, and driving a garbage truck in the future) one spring training night.
