According to reports on MLB.com, Prince Fielder will announce his retirement deciding that his neck injury is a career-ender. I don't know if this will get the Rangers (and Tigers) off the hook for his contract.
Edit: per mlbtraderumors, he won't techinically retire so he won't forfeit his money. Rather, he will be permanently medically disabled. Can't the Phillies just say the same about Harrison?
