One could also say the Cubs' being so hot was in part due to the Phillies being so cold. But we seem to have caught the Padres at their worst to make up for it a little bit. I definitely prefer watching our team win while the offense and individual hitters struggle to what the Cubs have been doing lately.

Thanks for the gift link. Interesting that Bregman has a .693 OPS. I remember that there were some strong advocates on this board for the Phils to get Bregman this past off season. I can't imagine the ire directed at Dombrowski if the Phils had spent $175m on a 32 year old who was giving that kind of frustrating performance.

Judge playing in the ASG (or HRD) at CBP may be doubtful. Out six-to-eight weeks with a stress fracture in his ribs. And, the Yanks might be without him when they come to CBP in late July.

Sounds like an injury that is not too serious, but the one thing he really can't do in recovery is swing the bat with lots of force.

No room for nepotism any more. It used to be a cute feature of a draft longer than the players you actually sign. Now the roster limits have understandably killed all that.

I actually never had much of a problem with that because the kids rarely played over prospects even if they signed. But now it takes away a developmental roster spot and with the organizational limits we really don't have room for more than 100-120 developmental slots since we also need room for AAAA players and organizational pros around the real prospects.

I was just glad this wasn't about our GM! For sure, the old courtesy draft of those guys was meaningless compared to now. I do remember Andrew Amaro (nephew not son) actually playing (he was taken in the 47th and only lasted the end of his draft season).

Obviously not the same thing, but about 35 years ago, a colleague told me that his nephew played in the minor leagues. I had never heard of the nephew, who was not much of a prospect. So I could tell my colleague as a joke, I drafted him in my rotisserie league farm system. The guy actually made the majors, even was an All-Star one year.

I went to see JP Crawford play with the Blue Claws way back when.

There was a guy on the other team who had a familiar last name, he kinda dominated the game that day. I looked him up, and he was not a well regarded prospect, figured he was on the team cause of his famous relative.

He's now in his 8th ML season, Mike Yastrzemski.

Those guys both sound better than Eddie Guardado's kids' best friend though.

In 2015 the Phillies also took Morandini's kid and Tom McCarthy's kid. Can't immediately tell who the 4th nepo pick was, a scout's kid maybe?

Yeah but the foul ball injuries and need for netting predates the phone addiction era by a lot, and often it's little kids, not people holding their phones. Extending the netting all the way is more recent (2019).
