I just looked that up, too. Nice year in the KBL, but the competition is probably not even AAA level in the KBL. At least that's what I've read.

If Nava was going to be out longer I bet they would have considered swapping Perkins for Hoskins but they need to prioritize trading Nava, and playing him.

Random minor league pitching thoughts

*Might be nothing, but it seems like 71 pitches through 4 innings is a little early to pull Brandon Leibrandt

*I know I said this about Tyler Viza and he's since pitched better...but I've now had enough of Tommy Bergjans in Reading's rotation. He just isn't good.

*On the night Hellickson throws 7 shutout innings in his O's debut, Garrett Cleavinger makes his Reading debut...and it's not good. Three runs allowed in 2 innings. Probably have to hit the re-set button with him this fall and see what he can do with some time under our coaches.

*Make that two poor debuts in two nights amongst the newly acquired relievers. Seth McGarry took the loss for CLW last night.

*Anybody seen Kevin Gowdy?

(Wait, let me add a positive one or two)

*I can't lie, I'm getting a little excited about Kyle Young. We might have something there.

*Really looking forward to McKenzie Mills' debut tomorrow (I think it's tomorrow) for Clearwater. I said this in other posts, but doggone it we now have a pretty deep group of LHP starting pitching prospects.

schooldoc...let me add a few to your wonderful list.

I, too, noticed that Leibrandt left after 4 with a 3-1 lead and immediately thought one of two things, A] he got hurt or B] he is coming to Philadelphia as a much needed lefty in the rotation or bullpen.

Someone on another site said Fanti got hit in the leg by a line drive today and that could have been the reason he was pulled after 4.1 innings.

Arauz went on the DL today after HE was hit in the foot by a line drive late in his near perfect game and he will miss some time.

I second the where is Gowdy question? And Appel, who was said to be throwing on July 24 and was said by Jordan to be coming back "sooner rather than later."

And in the good news department...Haseley seems to be back on track and thats a good thing.

Hoskins needs to be up as soon as Nava can be moved, though I wonder if LHV's entrance into the playoffs may give the Phils pause.

I am also very excited to see Mills pitch, hopefully tomorrow.

First impressions on Phillies draftee hitters sure are good ones, and Guthrie hasn't even played yet. Still early, and they are very far from the majors but almost none of the draftees looks overwhelmed by professional ball.

Leibrandt looks sooo good- if only he had another 3 mph on his fastball, he'd be the perfect pitching prospect. He's built like Hamels with that long, lean, strong build. Awesome change, good command- and 16 pickoffs this year! He did get up in the zone with his fastball a bit too much though.

I asked Mitch Rupert about Guthrie the other night since we haven't heard from Guthrie since he was assigned to WPT.

Turns out, Mitch reported that Guthrie is not in fact with the Cutters but was assigned there basically because he had to be assigned somewhere after signing. I suppose the Phils are just going to let him heal up after the long college season and get ready for FIL. Reports were that Guthrie dealt with a shoulder injury this year, and if you remember he also missed time in the CWS with a back problem.

In the meantime, Nick Maton has acquitted himself pretty well so far at short for the Cutters. It will be interesting to see how these middle infield prospects are assigned next year, if all are healthy.
