There were few players we were more excited about after the 2011 draft than Mitch Walding and maybe, just maybe, he has finally figured things out. His 18th home run was hit on the road tonight his 4 RBI in game two of the DHer were the only runs produced in the 4-1 victory.
His numbers for the past month have been tremendous and it will be interesting to see if people begin to notice nationally. People who have seen him play say he has always looked the part of a baseball player...smooth defensively, great swing, quick wrists.
My guess is that he simply was lost hitting the curve ball and he has finally learned how to handle it, at least enough to get by. I think the Phils are beginning to think so and this is at least one of the reasons that they are beginning to float the "trade Franco" rumors.
Its also interesting that Zack Green is playing 3rd base again and while his two homers in a GCL game are not necessarily reason to suggest he is back, its also something to at least recognize.
With Walding, Green and Stobbe all playing 3rd base and showing power this position may not be the black hole organizationally that many thought. In a year where there is little to hold your hat on, this might be one of them.
