Tromp is showing solid power, with his tools he has a chance.
Pujols however is still struggling to make contact, looking like the next "look like Tarzan, hit like Jane" prospect.

Crawford has to fix his swing, he has to develop some power, because he doesn't have the great speed to get away with being a punch and judy hitter.
Meanwhile, so far Galvis has picked up where he left off last year, which may mean Crawford gets lots of time to work on a new swing.

Alfaro so far looks like he's building on his improvement he showed last season.
Kingery off to a nice start, here's hoping his new found power doesn't result in an 80 game suspension.

Galvis at a .258 OBP is certainly picking up where he left off last year. Even if he hits 20 HRs again he will still be barely a positive WAR player if his OBP is below .280.

Crawford does not need to have great speed to get on base. That is just a complete non-sequitur. He has good speed. And the ability to have a high OBP. He'll be just fine. If he did fail as a prospect we will still need another SS good enough to play on a contender because Galvis is just not that player.

Again...small sample size. You cannot draw meaningful conclusions from so little data. In other words, comments at this point are motivated by things other than rational analysis - that's true if the poster is taking a shot at a prospect (Crawford and Williams appear to be the whipping "boys"), or commenting on an established major leaguer.

Galvis .258 was kind of the tongue and cheek response to the Crawford SSS - though we do have 1800+ plate appearances for him to know he is likely to have a low OBP in the future.

Everything we see is SSS at this point. Nobody's K rate is crazy high so there is probably a little bad luck in there. Joseph might be the start that worries me the most since he has a history of mediocre plate discipline. He improved in the second half last year but the league might have studied some film over the winter and made their own adjustment to him. Saunders looks really anxious up there so I think he gets a month adjusting to a new league before we can start to form any new conclusions. His season last year was such a mix of good and bad halves that it is hard to know what we have in him.

Seriously, the only one that worries me right now is Pujols, who's K rate remains unacceptable.
Otherwise, there's a reason I keep referencing Valentin, it's a joke, folks (although he did have a fine spring campaign and deserves more respect).

Yes, he may well be below .300 OBP, but over his last 2 full seasons he is a .288 OBP guy with a .660 OPS. That is about what he has been his whole minor and major league career, although his SLG has been increasing.

I also see Valentin as a future major league player, probably a utility guy. I don't worry at all about Pujols. He is near the bottom of our top 30 and really not counted on for much of anything. If he becomes an average MLB corner OF, then we have received an unexpected bonus.
