FCL Phillies are quite a mess.

They just have no pitching that is really ready for the level other than whomever is rehabbing that day. Not sure there is a solution here and they should not really start signing 22 year olds who are way too old for the league. They went several years without developing much Latin American pitching and traded a few of the arms that showed promise. That cumulative lack of development is showing now.

I hadn't quite realized how young they were. They have 7 healthy pitchers on the roster who are 20 or over, the Yankees who they are playing today have 13. They have 4 hitters who are at least 20 and the average age of the team is 20.4 years old. There are only 3 players (Wilmer Blanco, Tegan Cain, and Eligio Arias) who are 22 or older. You have Cain from the 2024 draft (he missed 2025 to injury), but there are no healthy college arms from the 2025 draft on the FCL team, they have pushed them all to full season ball. Should they have held back some guys? I am not sure, but yeah lack of dev and acquisition and deciding to just roll youth instead.

If it is any consolation our pitchers have a cumulative .400 BABIP against them. 6.4 BB/9 is not helping either. Fielding is probably not great with that BABIP.

I do realize they are pretty young. BR has the average pitching age of 20.4 vs 20.8 for the league. And there are a couple of Mitch Neunborn innings in that age calculation. Maybe holding a few back who are now at Clearwater would have made sense, but again if that means signing older players at upper levels (with the roster limits) I am not sure what that accomplishes in terms of developing prospects.

Hopefully the DSL pitching is better this year so they can get back on track in FCL next season.

Gresham looks interesting. 24 year old Army pitcher, TJ surgery, missed 2024 season, 9K in 4 IP for Clearwater
Certainly worth the gamble as a UDFA.
A starter right now, probably to stretch out his arm and work on his pitches, but I could see them moving him to the pen if he continues to show well for fast promotion.
