Ferrebus with 4 hits including a homer, and Burkholder 2 doubles. Burkholder is hitting well over .300 in May and is really starting to impact the ball- thank goodness, something to be excited about!

Steve Potter week in review features Ferrebus. But scroll all the way down for DSL pre-season updates. Renteria 7-12 in the 3 games this week. Maybe having a single DSL team means that team might actually be decent. As Matt has noted, they have released or traded a bunch of players in the past month as they are reducing the roster to likely have only one team (though maybe there are still 35-40 players floating in and out of that team).

And Keith Law with some notes on Nori, Rincon, and Escobar. The Nori comments reflect a high floor/lowish ceiling player that probably won't ever have much power. Rincon comments are pretty positive with the offense and a little power coming around to pair with his solid infield defense. Escobar a little less so though I think he might have more power to untap than Law gives him credit for.

I have some worry about the pitching, that said Yilmar Samudio, Sam Ortiz, and David Victorino all of my eye early. Justin Burgos was their top pitching bonus, and you can see why (size, projection, and feel for spin) but he needs more development. Yrish still can't throw strikes, and Yoel Zambrano doesn't throw hard, but he is a weird lefty.

On the hitting side they have mostly had a lineup that is Parra, Renteria, and Saenz at the top, with Cruceta, Adames, Ramirez, Prieto, and Velasquez filling out the top 6 (Silva has started working into games as well). I can't remember where I said it, but those guys are not small and they hit the ball hard. It is cheating to say that the single team version should be the best offensive version of the team, but it is trending that way.

Nori turning out to be a pretty good first round pick. Safe and high floor, I think pretty much liek Crawford. Atleast there is depth there.

I’ve seen a couple ABs from Parra where he was really tuned in to the at bat- working the pitcher in a very animated way. Entertaining and it least he gives the perception that he has a plan at the plate.

Nori just needs alley power and reduce his chase rate.

But as Rojas showed, a plus fielder at SS or CF just has to be mediocre as a hitter to have real value - his problem is he couldn't sustain "mediocre." Anything above .700 OPS would make Nori or Rincon a 2-3 WAR starter.

Well we don't know if they can do that. We also don't know if their defense is actually plus yet either. Crawford is a minus at this point for instance. If Nori is not better than say Marsh in CF then he'll need to hit more to play.

Players can be decent prospects and still not be sure things. We also need to start producing players that are BETTER than 2-3 WAR players. That is why Bohm is kind of a developmental failure. Obviously he has been a decent major leaguer. But that is it. Theoretically one can find 2 WAR ballplayers for money.

The problem with Bohm is both at #5 he should be better than 2--3 WAR and that he's not even consistently 2-3 WAR.
With Stott, given his draf position, it would be nice if he was consistently 2-3 WAR.

Crawford's CF defense was always a question, Nori has always received positive reviews for his fielding.

The real problem is they need a RH power bat in the OF (Harper, Schwarber). Garcia is a one year patch

No argument there. It is why Renteria and even Burkholder are important prospect even though they are years away. If Renteria could develop into the Latin American star we have lacked (and ideally in only 3 or 4 years) it would go a long way towards managing the decline of Harper, Turner, and Schwarber. Producing 4+ WAR prospects who are inexpensive for a few years would make lots of things easier in the future.
