The problem with Moniak is not the lack of physical development. Of course we were always projecting there like with any HS player. The problem is the things we drafted him for (superior hit tool, solid bat to ball skills, polished for a HS player) did not show up as he aged. The kid had a 5/51 BB/K ratio going into today's game. Lack of physical development has nothing to do with that. Being a "pure hitter" is mostly a skill and he sure looks like he has less of that skill than advertised.
Like it or not Moniak will always be judged by a higher bar being the 1-1 pick or even if he is simply judged as one player among the top 5 or so in his draft. Hopefully he makes it, but he sure does not look like more than a Tocci type at the moment and that is a huge disappointment from where he was drafted.
