He wasn't the only one to swing at a first pitch in the last couple innings when the M's had the huge lead. Didn't seem to be a team wide strategy to take a strike.

On the good news side, the Phils scored 14 runs over the past 2 days.

Not exactly the break from a tough NL/road stretch the Phillies were supposed to enjoy. But the Mariners are probably gonna end up being pretty good, and it's always tougher to face an AL line-up.

Hard to play musical relievers w/o room on the 40, which is why Thompson came up in the first place (though they did choose Leiter over the journeymen options).

Garcia is probably eligible to come back up by now and it wouldn't surprise me if Gomez doesn't pitch for the Phillies again, whether via the DL or a DFA.

I admit that I expected the bullpen would be better this season. I have been disappointed so far and agree that some changes are certainly coming.

Altherr looking great but we have to see him over the remainder of the season to see if he is truly going to be a part of the future. We can't fault the offense for the losses to the Mariners.

I was also encourage by another good start from Eflin. Not great, too many baserunners, but he went six innings, a quality start, and left with the game tied. If the bullpen does its job, the Phillies likely get the win.

I thought Eflin looked pretty good, left a couple balls over the plate but most of the M's hits were off good pitches.
As the game went along he got a better feel for how to pitch them.
What impresses me is how effortlessly he throws, then you see 94-96.

I think in two years (he just turned 23) he's going to add 10 lbs or so, strengthen his lower body and consistently hit 94-96, t98.
Once he gets those secondary pitches down I think he is our best bet for a #1 starter.
Pivetta also has a shot, I think Velasquez has to work too hard to generate velocity and is an injury waiting to happen - bullpen may be in his future.
