Where we stand before any games today, capped at the five worst even though the Mets aren't realistically in the running:
Giants 58-93 -- (10-20)
Phillies 59-91 1.5 (16-14)
White Sox 60-89 3 (14-16)
Tigers 62-88 4.5 (9-21)
Mets 65-85 7.5 (12-18)
As recently as late-August, the Giants had played four more games than the Phillies did. They and the Rays played more games than anyone else in baseball at that point. Now, the games played deficit is down to one. Giants have five days off this month. If the Giants were having a much better season and I was a fan of a team that was battling them for a postseason spot, I would be annoyed that they had so many opportunities to rest people and set up their pitching rotations down the stretch.
With twelve games to go, the Phillies need four wins to avoid their first 100 loss season since 1961. The way they are playing now, I don't think I can see them going 3-9 or worse.
