Maybe, but there are some bright spots developing (we hope).
Howard could give you a solid #3 to go with Nola and Wheeler, and guys like Eflin, Suarez, etc. can fill out the back of the rotation, you don't need world beaters at #4 and #5, just upgrades over Velasquez and Pivetta. When you get to #5, I'd rather have a "junk baller" who can give me 30 starts and 180 IP with a ERA/FIP in the 4.5 range for cheap than the fireballer who promises but never delivers. Too bad Eickhoff broke down.
Not sure how player develop will work, are most of the minor leaguers going to spend the summer at the Clearwater complex?
Prospects at Lehigh: [Bohm, Howard], Brogdon, Seabold, D Jones, Russ, Arano, Moniak, O'Hoppe, DLS? Marchan?
Hard to imagine a prospect who isn't at Lehigh making an impact next season.
So if Didi leaves, SS is a hole again unless Segura moves back and Bohm at 3B (defense???)
Haseley is looking solid, finished strong last year and picked it up this year.
But if JT leaves they have a huge hole at C.
