I've accepted that Herrera dances to the beat of a different drummer, but he is a tremendously talented player, a potential Golden Glove CF who could win the batting title some year if he just lays off bad pitches. But he's unique, and the best thing to do with him is just let him be himself, and hope he grows into the player he could be.
Nick Williams is impressive, he's a little too aggressive, but unlike a lot of young hitters, he knows he is and is trying to adjust, he really is a LH clone of Altherr with better bat speed.
Which creates a Phillies dilemma - Cozens, Quinn, Tocci, Tromp, followed by Moniak, Haseley, Alastre and Ortiz. Wow! Could have worse problems, but somehow I think OF isn't going to be a priority the next few years.
Eflin looked solid, but I think he's a year away, an offseason working on his legs and his mechanics, filling out that frame, and I suspect he'll be 95-96 t99, tonight he was 93-95, t97.
Like Pivetta and Velasquez, his upside will be defined by command and secondary pitches, but I think he has the most potential of the three, with his knees fixed, I think he can make a big jump next season.
He flashed a nice slider and changeup, and is starting to develop a little tail on his two seamer.
Anyone notice that Rupp's OPS is now .760? After a couple horrendous months, he's figured something out. Something tells me that Knapp's future is going to be superutility guy, C/1B/RF, switch hitter.
Crawford and Kingery may be top prospects, but do you really think there are 10 2B/SS combos as good as Hernandez/Galvis?
It's been a frustrating year, but they've got a lot of young, talented players. We have two more years of ups and downs, but you can see the future, and we have a great draft ahead to set us up for the 2020s.
