I'll say a third time I hope the Phillies will get Wheeler checked out to make sure he is ok.
Throwing 103 pitches in 4 innings with 9 hits, 4 HR and 5 walks is very abnormal for Wheeler and should be another flashing red warning light.
It has been a bad second half so far for Wheeler. He has surrendered at least four earned runs in four of his last six starts.
Over that stretch, his ERA has jumped from 2.16 to 3.40.
Since July 27, Wheeler has allowed 16 runs (15 earned) across 20.1 innings. He's still striking out hitters at a 26.1% clip, but his walk rate has ballooned to 13.4%. The good news is his velocity seems in line with normal output, but his command is way off.
Mattingly will say, "that's baseball" or "he'll figure it out eventually", shrug and move on as Wheeler continues to struggle and hurt the team. Only when the injury or some other issue becomes known publicly will they do anything. Sad.
