GDT 8/22/17 Miami Marlins (D Straily) @ Philadelphia Phillies (A Nola)

Have to hang this loss on the pitching. Nola not good again for second outing in a row after a super strong string of starts. Bullpen also not sharp this game.

Offense provided plenty of runs to win a game and scoring 8 runs on 8 hits was making the most of the hits. Cool to see Hoskins get #6 in his twelfth game.

Put another one in the win column for the 1.1 draft slot. Another disappointing game for Phillies phans.

Nola had a QS after six innings. Shaky start but still he had allowed only three runs and made ninety pitches. Then Mackanin rolls him out for the seventh on a hot humid night. Not much good is going to come from that.

The classic managerial second-guess. Send a reliever out for that 7th inning and Mackanin might have looked pretty dumb too (though maybe not six runs dumb).

Nice that the bats came alive but that didn't really happen until it was 9-3. You don't get Dustin McGowan batting and going multiple innings in a close game.

I was listening to the game. I have no problems rolling out Nola to start the 7th, although I may have pulled him after the first two batters reached.

Is it time to restart the Nola injury watch?

Well geez let's hope not. Sometimes guys just have a bad couple of games. I'll always remember Cliff Lee in late August/early September of 2009 getting rocked twice. And Nola's still finding his way. (Obviously we jinxed him with all the ace/#1 starter talk).

Nola was hitting 95-96, command is the issue, and he seemed to have abandoned his changeup.
I think he's still not comfortable with his new delivery, and he's going through a rough stretch of command issues.
But he's still only 24, so maybe we should just relax and enjoy his progress, despite a couple bad games.
