What is wrong with Thompson? He was throwing 90-92, and his only secondary pitch was a good, but not great slider.
His last start, he "smoke and mirrored" his way through 5 innings, this time he couldn't get away with it (though a bad decision to play the IF in amd miscues by Hernandez and Joseph didn't help).
The HR by Trout was a 91 MPH FB down the heart of the plate.
His slider is good but not great, and I didn't see anything else stand out.
His two seam FB has a little movement and was a bit deceptive, but his command was meh.
Right now he's very similar to Eickhoff, same velocity, better movement on his FB, but his slider isn't as good as Eickhoff's curve when it's on.
Both pitchers need better command and a changeup.
Right now neither is much more than a marginal 5th starter, though Eickhoff has shown he can be much better, while Thompson was solid in the minors before this season.
