I can’t help but feel as though Herrera’s base-running mistake prevented the Phillies from coming back, as they seemed to be building some momentum against deGrom before he was thrown out.

Disappointing game for me. I hate seeing Arrieta with a really solid start and not be able to bring home a win for the Phillies.

I was disappointed in the inning from Garcia. Just not good enough.

We also saw more sloppy play. Herrera being caught at first for an inning ending out when the Phillies had a threat going. Even his head first dive to first on a previous at bat is a dumb play. He may well have been out anyway, but it has been shown repeatedly that the slide or dive is actually slower than flat out running to the bag. We also had a few plays in the field that could have been done better. Phillies have two errors and a couple more misplays.

Still, a close game but a loss. Both teams had 7 hits. This game against deGrom figured to be tough. Series even at 2-2 with the fifth game tomorrow. Not winning this series would be very disappointing.

Man on first two outs isn't exactly a game breaking situation but that doesn't excuse it (and he might have even been on second).

I can't say I was disappointed by anything, it was all about deGrom today, despite Garcia's poor showing.

The disappointing thing was not starting Bohr, who’s track record (admittedly SSS) vs DeGrom is great. I thought we are looking for every marginal advantage...unless Santana would get his feelings hurt?

Phillies have two errors and a couple more misplays.

I listened to the ESPNRadio broadcast, and the announcers made an interesting observation about the Phillies’ defensive shifts versus those of the Yankees and Astros. They noted that the Phillies rarely if ever change the shift from pitch to pitch, whereas the Yankees and Astros use different shifts depending on the pitch selection.

I don’t know that the Phillies’ shifts themselves are contributing to some of their miscues, but it’s odd when they use shifts and then pitch to hitters in a way that precludes their hitting the ball into the shifts. Conforto hit a ball that only Hoskins could have fielded because that’s how he was being pitched, which raises the question of why that pitch sequence and type of shift were used, especially with Hoskins’ struggles adjusting to left field.

Yeah I just don't think an analytics-minded team pays much mind to head-to-head #s compared to other factors.

I also don't really get why people are clamoring for Bour so hard, other than the fact that he's a shiny new toy. I know Santana is slumping, and disappointing relative to his salary, but production-wise they are basically the same (both for the season and their career, except Santana has a longer track record - though that also means he may or may not be declining).

It was good to have the stronger bench today though the supposed defense-first line-up certainly didn't produce enough of anything.

You would think so, but the Mets are only 11-14 this year when DeGrom starts, despite his 1.71 ERA.
