Mets lose so Phillies maintain 5 game lead in NL East. Mets host Seatle this weekend while Phillies continue in Washington.

We're tied with the Padres though. Standings (on MLB) say we're the #2 seed. They split these season series.

And meanwhile Ramon Laureano is racking for the Pads an d helping them pass the Dodgers. I don’t know what the price would have been for us to obtain Laureano, but I would have seriously considered moving Crawford for him. A RH power hitting LF is what this team desperately lacks. And going into next year will continue to be lacking. A 2026 OF of Marsh, Crawford and Nick will once again present an offensively challenged OF.

It does seem like the Phillies have had trouble with late flights and starting a series on the road with little sleep coming in.

Yeah, but this time is was Cincy (Covington, KY, actually) to DC. Same time zone.

I didn't know until this morning that their plane had broken down and they had to spend an extra night and morning in Cincinnati. They would have gotten there quicker if they chartered buses.

It seems like it is all a lot more mundane than we might imagine. I don't know if they use a charter company as middleman or just work directly with the airlines based on the market but it was a Delta plane and crew and once something goes wrong they are just like any other suckers sitting at the airport. There's no back-up plane, and rules for crew usage would still apply too.

A true private jet would have left from Lunken, which is actually in Cincinnati, but most of those aren't big enough for a baseball team (and the ones that are probably still well out of an MLB team's desired budget no matter how rich the owner is).

Google maps says 9 hour drive from the one stadium to the other, even on a Friday afternoon.

The announcers talked about it a bit, but on other sites it's dismissed as an 'excuse' to mention that they had maybe 2 hours in a hotel between games, as if cause they're rich and on TV they're no longer human beings.

The funny thing is the team did not feel like they were flat last night, and they're not wrong. Luzardo pitched great, they had 10 hits, Turner had three all by himself, both Schwarber and Harper had RBIs and they led after six innings. 1-6 with RISP but Nats were 1-5, and only had six hits.

Not a great night for the bats but game was lost by Thomson and the pitching in one unfortunate innings. He said after that he wished he'd had Kerkering ready one batter earlier, but having a reliever up to open the 7th was never considered.
