Actually game threads are less interesting than commentary, that is, the play by play is available off the net, but not observations on how pitchers are throwing and players are playing.
I thought Eickhoff looked rusty, his curve had great snap but he hung a few break balls. Was hitting 92, but to be successful he needs all four pitches, when he's in a groove he's a #3 starter, when he can't command his stuff he's a #5, while this dropoff is true for all pitchers, it's exaggerated with Eickhoff b/c he throws a straight FB that gets hit. To really take a step up he not only needs more consistency, but also to find a grip to make his FB move but still maintain command.
Altherr may never be a superstar, but it's becoming clear this season is no fluke, he knows how to work a count, and while he'll get frozen by first strike breaking balls and chase some pitches, when he gets to two strikes he becomes more focused. A really nice swing.
Galvis just looks like a good hitter these day, a really nice swing, and he's not chasing as many bad pitches.
Garcia may be our best RP, and even though he's 30, he has low mileage. Hitting 97 and setting up his FB with good secondary stuff, he's no longer nibbling and falling behind in the count. Benoit throws hard but is a disappointment, with his stuff and experience he should be more effective.
