I have been watching baseball since 1956…saw something I’ve never seen before via a walk off catcher’s interference…also scoring a run with no hits is pretty rare also…bull pen was lights out.

It is easier to score without a hit when they let you start the inning with a runner on 2nd.

Agreed. But also, if Phils were the road team they maybe possibly would have scored more runs that inning, maybe even gotten a hit.

Phils didn't get a hit in the 10th, but there were only 3 strikes to the 3 hitters before the catcher's interference. Hicks is credited with 4, so guess the last pitch counts as a strike?

Supposedly the 1971 walkoff catcher's interference was called on one Johnny Bench.

My friend likes to make the point about baseball that no matter how many games you've seen, on any given night you can still see something you've never seen before.

That's the most bizarre ending that I remember since Henderson Alvarez completed a no-hitter watching a wild pitch from the on deck circle.

Weird ending, but of course the chances of Hicks getting out of a no out bases loaded jam were pretty slim.

I often feel like when there's a 'never seen it before' in baseball that I have indeed seen it before (see "Game Winning Inside the Park Homer", for example). Not this one though!

And the Johnny Bench one came on a Manny Mota steal of home attempt, sounds like he went out to catch the ball across or over the plate to try to tag Mota out, so not even a swing by the batter.

The Boston Globe game story has the Sox almost saying Sosa did it on purpose, those are some fast reflexes if he can track the pitch and also see where the catcher's glove is going to be, and wondering why he would check a swing in that scenario, just take a full hack so it's obvious.
