Got good offense tonight. Schwarber and Harper hot starting back after the days off.

Phillies had seven walks that put runners on base so even though outhit by LAA, Phillies pitchers only walked one, giving the Phillies more base runners.

Nice to see a 1-2-3 ninth even if no longer a save situation. I’m hoping the next three games with feature strong pitching from our starters. I also hope the offense continues to score runs.

They were trying to reset the rotation. It's L/R/L/R/L now. Before they had two lefties in a row every time [though it varied which ones].

I don't think Walker's leaving the rotation any time soon personally. Abel had his chance. Painter's got a 5.00+ ERA and 1.4+ WHIP in AAA. And they seem to have reopened the door to using him in relief [though that was the owner not front office]. Nola's up next. Of course they could more easily endure Walker allowing 4-5 runs every time if Luzardo wasn't also doing it at times. But hitting definitely a cure for that too.

That is the Phillies in a nutshell: Abel gets a handful of starts as his chance while Walker gets chance after chance after chance.

I'd much rather reallocate the money Walker makes to a better player and give Abel or any other prospect more time.

I suspect the Phillies would also like to reallocate Walker's salary to a better player, but there isn't much they can do about that until his contract ends at the end of next season.

Walker has not pitched poorly this year. And Abel is probably still not better.

It would be nice if they could cut ties with Walker next year, ideally while also unloading some $. It might be doable. He might even be tradeable at this deadline if they really want to.But they probably don't want to with Nola and Painter still unknowns, or even next year if they don't bring back Suarez. We saw four far worse or less reliable/healthy pitchers occupy the 6th starter spot last year, never mind that one of them was that version of Walker. [Related: Spencer Turnbull has a 7.11 ERA this year and was already released by the Blue Jays. Cubs immediately gave him a new minor league deal.]

Agreed. Walker has been just fine this year. He's pitched nine appearances in relief before coming back into the rotation and only allowed runs in 3 of them. His two starts since returning - one good, one mediocre. He's got a 3.75 ERA for the year.

He's the fifth starter temporarily and the swing guy when Nola comes back That is well above league average performance for that role.

The money is sunk cost. Just worry about helping the team win (or rather, not lose, from that role. Which he is doing.
